Publisher's Summary

When Apple's mother returns after 11 years of absence, Apple feels whole again. She will have an answer to her burning question - why did you go? And she will have someone who understands what it means to be a teenager - unlike Nana. But just like the stormy Christmas Eve when she left, her mother's homecoming is bitter sweet, and Apple wonders who is really looking after whom. It's only when Apple meets someone more lost than she is, that she begins to see things as they really are.
Like a brilliant hybrid of Cathy Cassidy and Jacqueline Wilson, Sarah Crossan entices you into her world, then tells a moving, perceptive, and beautifully crafted story which has the power to make you laugh and cry.

Touching story, beautifully written and superbly read.

What did you like most about Apple and Rain?

This is a heart-warming story about family and relationships. I felt really connected to the characters, and the poetry in the book is gorgeous.

Who was your favorite character and why?

All the characters are great but I had an extra soft spot for Del who's witty and totally comfortable with who he is - there are some great moments with him that made me laugh out loud.

What about Susie Riddell’s performance did you like?

The audio version is beautifully read by Susie Riddell with great accents for the different characters which really brought them to life.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The story takes you on an emotional journey with Apple as she rediscovers relationships with her mother, discovers the value in what she already had with her grandmother and finds the unexpected with her little sister and Del.

Any additional comments?

A beautiful story that will appeal to a wide range of readers, and if you are a multi-tasker the audiobook is a great choice.

What a lovely tale!

Loved this book. Really nice pace, really nice story and just enjoyed it!
It shocked me, stunned me and made me laugh (actually out loud too!) in places. I loved the innocence of it all.
I shall be seeking more from this author!
