When Michael returns home from the war, his wife, Jessie Anne, sees a man still lost in the horrors of battle, and plagued by doubt and fear. Where is the man she once knew? And where is the faith he once lived by? In the spring of 1869, Michael leaves home once more, this time to return the Bible to the man's widow. This simple journey changes Michael in ways he could have never imagined.

Coulda, Shoulda, but didn't
This novel could have been good BUT the heavy-handed religious dogma crushes the story. Plus Dick Hill's narration (usually excellent) takes on a Capt Kirk quality,,, over acting? I dunno but it is over-something. Too bad because the trauma the Civil War soldiers suffered is a topic worth exploring with honesty

How'd do men do this?
What's inside men that makes them fight and die. The horror alone would seem enough to make most men turn and run .
But they have this enter spirit that could be pride, God, family, All of that and more I'm sure. I think it's more like what's going on at the time. How could you let down the men beside you! Ya can't.
