Sorry Katie not this time

I love Katie FFordes books does not matter if they are Audible paperbacks or Kindle but this one I found so completely boring have tried but cannot get past the first two chapters. Possibly the fact that Jilly Bond was the Narrater made it worse than it was. I think I have probably read most of Katie's books and enjoyed them
but doubt I will buy any more with

Right book, wrong narrator

I have enjoyed reading all of Katie Fforde's books, her characters are always down to earth and likeable. I didn't experience the same enjoyment with this book, and that had a lot to do with the narrator's sing song voice. It was just too jolly hockey sticks for me and was very grating at times. I have listened to other books with the same narrator, and haven't noticed this before. Like the first reviewer, I wish I had purchased the paperback version instead.

Love in the Antiques Trade

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

To be honest I don't think anything could, it would have to have been a different book with a different reader.

What was most disappointing about Katie Fforde’s story?

This story must be judged by its own genre, i.e. romance. it is not one I often read. Other writers sometimes put in this group such as Elizabeth Buchan write more complex, general fiction on relationships. I had fond memories of Katie Ffordes early books, which included more flawed human heroines, and more realistic situations, interpretations and decision making. I found this very formulaic and predictable. Though Katie Fforde writes with facility and includes some interesting information about antiques.

What didn’t you like about Jilly Bond’s performance?

This is very much a matter of individual preference, but I found the narration irritatingly arch and hard to listen to.

What character would you cut from A French Affair?

Any additional comments?

Pleasant escapism if this is what you like.
