A Being(s) in Love Story

Arthur MacArthur needs a job, and not just for the money. Before he dropped out of school to support his younger sister, he loved being a research assistant at the university. But working for a dragon, one of the rarest and least understood magical beings, has unforeseen complications. While Arthur may be the only applicant who isn’t afraid of Philbert Jones in his dragon form, the instant attraction he feels for his new employer is beyond disconcerting.

Bertie is a brilliant historian, but he can’t find his own notes without help - his house is a hoard of books and antiques, hence the need for an assistant. Setting the mess right is a dream come true for Arthur, who once aspired to be an archivist. But making sense of Bertie’s interest in him is another matter. After all, dragons collect treasure, and Arthur is anything but extraordinary.

This is one of my favorite books!

What made the experience of listening to A Boy and His Dragon the most enjoyable?

I have listened to this book at least 3 times. I love the characters, they are really well developed. The story is very entertaining. Definitely worth the money or credit. I would highly recommend.

Slow narration

I enjoyed the story itself very much but the purposeful slow way the narrator read made it really had to get into.

fun read

I love all the books in this series. This is a fine one to start on as it stands alone. MLM Romance with supernatural elements is a lot of fun and this is a gentle low stakes story with a happy ending. The narrator is not my favorite, but he is better if you run it a little bit fast.
I think I went with 1.4 speed. these characters reoccur in The Firebird and other stories (final story in collection), A Dandelion for Tulip(minor), Sweet Clematis(minor but more than in dandelion), and the Tales of Two Seers (AU story)

Wonderful Story; SLOW narrator

I really love this story--enough that I tolerated the narrator. He isn't the worst I've heard but he narrates SO slowly. I sped the reading up to 1.35x and that put him around normal speed. I liked that I could tell the characters apart but I do wish he'd at least attempted the English accent.

Best in the series!

This one is my favorite I read it so many times. It’s a very cozy slow burn. I love coppers series and this is one of the best in the set.

Listen to the book at 1.25x (extra speed)

I agree with the other reviews. This narrator reads slow. So I HIGHLY recommend speeding up the story to 1.25x. He sounds normal here.

Narrator: Again reads slow and I feel like he could improve on his character distinction voices. He is reading the book, but not immersing the listeners like other narrators on Audible.

Story: There were times I was confused by the massive inner ranting or fast change of subjects, that I would forget what was happening in the book. I was confused a lot, which is disappointing cause the story had such huge potential!!! Overall a 3.5

great story, great narration, horrible mic

Use a free eq app to boost the treble. After I messed around with the levels I realized the narrator was fantastic. the problem I think is that the mic is too low quality and the first few paragraphs are not a good hook at all. once you clean up the audio a bit (takes maybe 2 min at most and the common pre made "treble boost" setting works well for things. Some phones and earbuds have an app like it already available.

honestly though I think if they find the time the author or the voice actor should at least run this through brusfi orsimilar

love the novel, narrator in audio could be better

What did you like best about A Boy and His Dragon? What did you like least?

I love the book and got the audiobook at a discounted rate.. It's quite an interesting story and love the characters.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I do not like the "acting" in the narration. I do not know how old the narrator is but he sounds old(the way he reads and voices speech). The narrator's voice makes the characters quite a bit older than they should be(especially Bertie). They could have found a better match in terms for the book.

Was A Boy and His Dragon worth the listening time?

I listened to it so i could multitask. but it wasn't the best audiobook I have download. I have heard worse.. but it was bearable.

Too slow paced

This story was so slow-paced and the narrator didn't help. The premise and the MCs were interesting but I didn't really care for their relationship and found myself checking the time for it to end.

Not a bad start to a new series

3.5 stars. A little too long, the narrators English accent was off, and he was more of a glorified housekeeper instead of an assistant. But other than that, I did like the book. Bertie took his time to seduce his "treasure" and I liked that instead of them just jumping into bed as soon as they meet.
