Juvenile beyond belief. Run away.

The world is on the edge of destruction, billions of lives balance on the edge of a razor, somebody kisses someone and makes someone else mad. But let's focus on the kiss, because that's what is important under these circumstances. When I find myself wishing that ALL of the main character die, it's time to stop listening and ask for a refund. This is the worst and most inane story I have ever heard. Time to get my money back.

Dislike!

Dislike!! This book frustrated me. The main character Emerson is so irritating and there are gaps in the story.

What the whattttt

Emerson is so annoying. She has no morals, ethics, or respect in regards to relationships. Marcus is confusing when it comes to his feelings for Emerson and Amina. It seems as if some parts of the story were missing and other areas were all over the place. I could not connect with the main character.

Really despeakable main characters

Warning: there might be some spoilers here, even though I tried to avoid the specifics.
You know it is time to stop the book when you feel like you despise the main characters. Alas, I tortured myself till the very end.
I gave this book one star, which for me is very harsh. The writing itself is ok, not at all bad for YA romance book. The story could be compelling, considering the amount of worldbuilding the author tries to do (sure, from my point of view, the author is having trouble reconciling religion with imaginary things but let's move on past that).
The real problem is the love story (or stories, since there are at least several here, all equally bad). There is no chemistry in any of them, there is no "falling in love", there is no real reason for characters loving each other. They just fall madly in love because the author said so (in a space of a sentence or two) and that somehow gives them a free pass to commit atrocities like battery, rape, condemn the whole world to end etc etc. Because, obviously, they can't help it.
As a small example, Emerson has no qualms asking a guy for a date (as a payment! imagine how low it is...) in front of his friends and his girlfriend (almost fiance).
Both Emerson and Marcus (despite him being an angel!) are selfish, self-centered, ignorant, whiny and often rather stupid. There is also no consistency to their moral values (truthfully, when push comes to shove, there is very little of value in their morals...). While she can have an excuse of her age, he should be different. The same goes for most other characters.
Bottom line: unless you can get past incredibly juvenile amoral personality of the characters (especially, protagonists) and the whole world including hell and haven being like one big high school, skip this book. Yes, it is really this bad.

PERFORMANCE:
I want to note that Jennifer O'Donnell performance was great. I wish it was a more deserving book.

I enjoyed the overall story, but . . . . .

The story was enjoyable in general, but I probably won't be buying the second book. The writing, while not bad, was very juvenile, as were the emotions of the characters. I do understand that they were all juveniles, but it was a bit ridiculous. The story also came to no resolution, and apparently will be continued in the second volume. This is a no-no in my estimation. If authors want to continue a series with additional adventures using the same characters, that is great, but each book should be complete in itself. That does not happen here, so be prepared to buy all three books to actually finish the one.

Good read, Could have been better:-)

So i thrive on stories that are first person Narrative, So i seek all paranormal romances that has it written this way hence i had to listen to this one, especially since Jennifer O donnell was Narrating... I mean, who doesn;t like her style of Narration right!!!
I must be honest though, although the story is an interesting one... meh... yeah... I just found the flippen Main Character so Annoying at times... I just couldn't relate to her whinnying and wanting someone else's boyfriend... and also her voice... No man... I wish she had more of a stronger personality... I mean girls are not made that way anymore. I absolutely fell in love with the other characters, the twins being my favorite. and wolf, yummy... So thats my 2 cents

Main Character is annoying

Emerson, one of the main characters is beyond selfish and very dramatic. However, the story is intriguing and keeps you wanting to hear more. The ending is terrible but I'm hoping the other books help with this. it is just such an abrupt ending.

Great Performance

The story had so much potential. I actually think it's a great concept. The performance was exceptional. But, I have never disliked a main character more in my life. I get that they are teenagers. I read a lot of YA books but If you replaced the name Emmie with Max or Caillou( anyone with toddlers will know who I am referring to) and it's interchangeable. Emmie is annoying, whiny, immature, and just not likeable. I get that the author is trying to make her vulnerable and give her room to grow but it just fell short. I did enjoy the rest of the characters, though. Marcus, ,ehhh, but that's just more of a preference thing. I'm going to try book 2. I have hope that Emmie had a bit more personal growth

Mixed Feelings

The plot was interesting enough to carry me to the end of the book. I love fiction/fantasy with romance in the mist, and this book has them in spades. However the main characters can be so frustrating and flawed, it make them less likeable the further the book went, the fact they are teenagers can only excuse so much.
(Indirect spoilers here) Cheating is not OK, call it what you will but if there is a change of heart, end the current relationship BEFORE exploring a new one, in one scene the female character just asks for a date in front of the current girlfriend .. really?!?! Just really?!?! And then why ohh why are others angry and/or disappointed? And to top it off the male character gets angry when the girlfriend reacts to the disrespect!! Things just shouldn’t have progressed that far.

The narrator was good and engaging.
