A Great Story, But - Narrator Changed!

I downloaded this book as I absolutely love this series. However, to my surprise, no James Langton as the narrator! Instead, we have Tee and Pip and yeah, I get it, if I wrote something I know I would want to take a crack and being a voice actor / narrator... But, I would do it in the start of a series, not at book 5...etc.

Can I pay more or help fund getting James Langton back?

Story fell short, and narration was annoying.

I have enjoyed the previous stories in this series, but out of the gate, I lost interest because of the change in narration. I'm sorry, but Tee Morris grating voice and his difficulty reading with feeling, with attention to phrasing, ruined the experience. Pip was noticeably better. but neither is a professional narration performer, and it glared.

Looking forward with hope for the previous narrators return,

What happened to the narrator?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Probably not

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The interludes were distracting and I would rather that it had focused on the main characters.

What didn’t you like about Tee Morris and Pip Ballantine ’s performance?

It was nothing like the previous books. I thought that Books sounded more American than British and Eliza wasn't much better. That steampunk feel was simply gone. Overall it was just really bad narrating like they were brand new at it (maybe they were) and were working hard to stay in character.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. The narrator(s) were so distracting because they didn't sound the way the characters should that I simply stopped listening because I wasn't paying attention to the story. I thought this was a shame because I've loved all the Ministry of Peculiar Instances books.

Good story hurt by Authors' narration

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

For those who follow the series it's a good story and the next step in the chain but I would recommend reading it rather than listening to it.

What didn’t you like about Tee Morris and Pip Ballantine ’s performance?

I think they don't compare to James Langton's ability to capture the characters. Also the narration part as opposed to the dialogue suffers in comparison as Langton's narration really gave the impression of Victorian pacing and humor. In my opinion the authors read with a more modern cadence that didn't fit with the feeling of the series.

Any additional comments?

These are great writers who have a great series but I believe they should stick to their strengths and leave the narration to James Langton.

Why do authors think they are voice actors?

Would you listen to The Ghost Rebellion again? Why?

The story is great and the series is worth listening too. I would listen to this story again if they got a real voice actor to narrate the story.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Quick, someone slap the authors upside the head. While I think they are great writers they are not voice actors. Very few authors are good voice actors. PLEASE, listen carefully to the previous books and then to this one. The difference is clear.

Bad change of narrators!

Total loss of inflection on the part of the narrators. Really disappointing. Good story though, is rather have read it in book form.

Congratulations, you totally RUINED it!

When I saw this book on my feed the other day I was so excited because I have listened to all the others in the series and loved them. Those days are over! For some reason the authors are reading this book (alternating chapters) and it is TERRIBLE! The male author/reader has three skills as a reader:
1. Accents so bad they make me yearn for the nuance of my daughters second grade pageant.
2. The ability to break up sentences so they make the least sense possible.
3. The nack for completely stripping the excitement out of anything he's reading.
The female author/reader is way better but still far from professional.

I listened to the first three chapters hoping I could ignore the quality of the author/readers but I just couldn't. Their reading makes, what I'm sure is a delightful book in print, seem confusing, amateurish, and boring. Thank goodness audible has a policy that you can return books you don't enjoy - I will 100% be taking them up on their offer this time. When my bitter feelings have subsided I plan to read the print version and put this nightmare behind me. Please get a professional narrator for the next one...

Performance Ruins the Series

If you’ve listened to books by Pip Ballantine and Tee Morris before, how does this one compare?

I have enjoyed the three previous books in the series, but the narration in this fourth book is terrible. What would possess them to narrate their own novel. This almost never works. The fact that the narrator is American totally takes me out of the story. This is the worst.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Tee Morris and Pip Ballantine ?

Literally almost anyone.

I really wanted to like this book - l

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The narrator- the authors- switched back and forth from british/ australian accent to american narator jarring and too fast, I even tried slowing it to ,75 %, it was actually beter for parts of it,

If you’ve listened to books by Pip Ballantine and Tee Morris before, how does this one compare?

I like the earlier ones better

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Tee Morris and Pip Ballantine ?

The same as the earlier ones

Could you see The Ghost Rebellion being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Don't know - couldn't finish

Authors take stab at narration ruin a great series

Unlistenable. Terrible accent work. I've heard worse, but not by much. Don't download this book.
