Publisher's summary

Number one New York Times best-selling author Christine Feehan cuts straight to the heart of a man who stalks the shadows in an intoxicating Leopard novel.

Though born into a leopard's lair in the bayou, Joshua Tregre's fighting skills were honed in the rainforests of Borneo. Sleek and deadly, he's the perfect man to take over a crime syndicate back home in Louisiana's lush swamplands. His razor sharp instincts give him an edge in the violent underworld he knows so well, but even the watchful leopard inside him isn't prepared for the danger that comes from the girl next door.

She is a woman who can create beauty out of thin air - and out of the ruins of her own life. The games that dangerous men play have taken their toll on her, but she is bent, not broken. And it's her fierce spirit that's like a lure to Joshua, a temptation he can't resist - even if it means bringing his true nature into the light.

Leopard Erotica

I've read and or listened to this entire series and the last 2-3 books have less story line and more sex than the original 4 or 5. Its done well for what it is, but I miss the good stories of rescues and the camaraderie among the leopards. Also, in the first few books, the last name of Joshua (central in this book) was Tregre (prounounced Tre-gray) by the reader - the last two books they called him Joshua Trage...........lack of continuity on the name pronunciation - little things like that bother me. In the prior books the women were strong - both in mind and body - have to be to survive the males - the female in this one was less so in lots of ways. Love the Leopard series but would like more meat in the story along with the erotica.

STORY REPETATIVE!!

I finished the book late Tuesday night 10/24/17 release day but I needed time to think about what I felt about Joshua and Sonia's story. Well guess what I am still not sure. The reason I did decide on 3 stars is the story is repetitive and I don't need that many sex scenes to make a story hot, sensual and sexy. I don't like it when authors repeat the same lines and scenes in a story over and over. I get it the first time. I think this occurs to lengthen the word count. Leopard's Blood would have made a much better Novella/Short Story. But the storylines we do get are very good fast paced, lots of action and some pretty hot sex scenes. Great believable chemistry between Joshua and Sonia. Too Many Sex Scenes but they were well done. So you see I was very tossed up in the air about this story and will re read it. But for now 3 Stars.

The subtleties have changed!

I find it interesting that CF has changed some important nuisances of the Leopard mating, as the series has progressed. For example, earlier in the series, the mates has moments of de ja vu that were supposed to be memories of their previous lives together. They are supposed to find their same mates each time they are reincarnated. This was stressed in the early books and now it isn’t even mentioned. There are other “traditions “ or instincts that were part of Leopard traditions that she has continued; I wonder why? There are other inconsistencies also. For example, previously mates wore wedding rings on their fingers and there was no mention with an issue of shifting with their rings on. Now, the Heroine has to wear her ring on a chain around her neck so she can shift. I always notice inconsistencies like this and it takes away, from the series, in my opinion.
Other than these issues, I enjoyed the book. I did find the Heroine’s perception of her past compared to the realties, a bit over the top, but hey, this is fiction.
As always, the narration by Jim Frangione was superb; he is one of my favorites.
Overall, I feel like it is a credit worthy listen.

Definitely erotica rather than romance

So I’ve got to completely agree with some of the other reviews here. I’ve been a fan for a very long time and have a pretty extensive library of these books, including her other series, and this story was just different and lacking honestly. Joshua’s character just wasn’t what I was expecting at all. Way too hard and harsh compared to how he was described in other books. He’s almost just an asshole in my opinion so that just turned me off to the story quite a bit. The sex scenes are just ridiculous honestly. The story line gets completely taken over and lost because of all of the unnecessary sex scenes that are also unnecessarily graphic. I’m all for details, that’s one of the things that I’ve really enjoyed from these books, but this book it just way overboard with it to the point where I was skipping through them. It was just repetitive and excessive. I mean honestly, the amount of times the word “cock” is used is just comical. It took away from the actual story line and made it unenjoyable. Overall, I’m glad that Joshua found his mate and it had the potential to be a great story, but I’m definitely disappointed a bit with how this was written. It seems like a lot of details and action was missing from the actual story and those holes were just filled with a massive amount of raunchy, drawn out sex.

Too repetitive. I know from the first chapter.

I know from the first chapter she has an abusive homicidal husband. Don't need to be told it up chapters!!! Even the abridged version is way, way , way to repetitive... PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!

When will the bloody thing end?

I love Christine Feehan’s books. She has a unique style and the characters are always so well developed that they jump off the pages. This book was one of her worst. It has taken me MONTHS to finish the book when I normally finish within a day or two. I never connected with the characters and the story was hopping all over the place bringing in characters from other books with no back story and no lead in. I was delighted when the book was finished and I could return it.

Overall, not her best work. Too much sex and or enough of anything else.

I’d still read her books. Especially the dark series ones...I was perhaps simply hoping for more.

Letdown

I usually enjoy these books. However, This book is a lot of sex with a little story. The storyline was good, what little there was of it, but there was HOURS of sex with maybe an hour of plot.
