Publisher's summary

The fourth novel in Peter Clines' best-selling Ex series.

When he’s awake, George Bailey is just an ordinary man. Five days a week he coaxes his old Hyundai to life, curses the Los Angeles traffic, and clocks in at his job as a handyman at the local college. But when he sleeps, George dreams of something more. George dreams of flying. He dreams of fighting monsters. He dreams of a man made of pure lightning, an armored robot, a giant in an army uniform, a beautiful woman who moves like a ninja.

Then one day as he’s walking from one fix-it job to the next, a pale girl in a wheelchair tells George of another world, one in which civilization fell to a plague that animates the dead…and in which George is no longer a glorified janitor, but one of humanity’s last heroes. Her tale sounds like madness, of course. But as George’s dreams and his waking life begin bleeding together, he starts to wonder - which is the real world, and which is just fantasy?

Best one so far

I love this series. My favorite zombie series and my favorite super hero series all tied into one. And this was Peter Clines best work in the series yet. I think this one gave the characters a bit more depth. Especially Stealth. Getting under the veil a bit more was cool. Can't wait for the next one.

Still Good, But not my Favorite

I liked this chapter of the series more than I thought I would, but again I really dislike the superpower of the main supervillain and do not enjoy hearing a story crafted around him as much as the first in the series. Still, this is a good book and I do enjoy checking in on some of our favorite characters.

Didn't live up to the previous books.

Have really enjoyed the series up to this book.

This book starts out slow and just never gets interesting until the last 3 chapters. Very slow story and very little of the story actually matters to the overall series. I would suggest just skipping this book.

Also, it's very annoying that they did not keep all 3 voice actors for this book. Having it only be the one voice made it a harsh transition from the last book since many of the voices have changed.

good book sad about the lack of narrators.

if you want a great story look no further. if you want dissapointment via narration look no further. you go from a cast of narrators to just one it's a similar complaint I had about the original ghost story narration.

Keep going!!!! This is a great series.

My favorite hero from the city is the “shining” star here. Things get more and more intense for the dragon and crew!

Interesting story, lackluster performance

Great story. I really didn't like how flat and robotic the actor made Stealth sound. Yes, she is a very intellectual and logical character but that doesn't mean she would speak in a metallic monotone.

Good, but not as much as others in the series

Note: I have listened and reviewed this book before but Audible took it down.

This book on its own is actually pretty cool. I read it in the past and remembering that it was not quite up to par with others in the series. But listening to it without having listened to the others in a while I was actually into it.

This book is about George living life in a world where superpowers never popped up in people. This means George has no powers, but also no Zombies. After an encounter with a girl in a wheel chair, however, things start to appear out of place.

It's a good listen if you're a fan of the series. However, one issue of note is Jay Snyder's solo narration in this book. don't get me wrong, he does a good job on his own, but it's not the same without the missing voice actors.

mostly good story, ugh performance

unfortunately this one was missing two of the three voice actors from the previous books. it dampened the excitement when you heard them with the wrong voices.

the story was really good, very imaginative, but I felt the very end was lacking.

still, a must read if you're following the series.
