Publisher's Summary

A damaged ex-soldier. A virgin determined to save her father. A deal that will either save them both or end in disaster.
My whole life has been about waiting. Playing it safe. Be the good girl, don't color outside the lines. Put in the hard work trying to prove myself to Dad, then to my college professors, then to my boss at New World Media. Just waiting for the day when it will all pay off.
And right when it was all starting to - I finally had the house, the job, I was even thinking about getting a cat-boom! - my life explodes and suddenly now I'm here and -
"All done," the doctor interrupts my thoughts, pulling off her gloves with a loud snap.
Even from the bed where I'm lying, my legs spread like the Thanksgiving turkey, I can hear the impatient growl of the man standing in the doorway. If you can even call him a man. More like a beast out of a friggin' fairytale. "Well?"
Her pronouncement echoes throughout the room while the speculum is still inside me. "She's a virgin."

Glad I stuck with it

I enjoy stories involving Domination and submission, but I was initially very turned off by the very severe slave aspect of the story. Xavier’s seeming lack of any compassion or respect for Mel was disturbing.

I am glad I stuck with it though. Once you move past that, you realize that Mel begins to want his control; desires and LOVES him and that Xavier needs her as much as she needs him.

While there are hot, VERY hot scenes, there is much more to the story.

I do wish there was more to the end of the story. It seems to be an abrupt end.

I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review.

Sexy Dark Romance

Overall I liked this dark romance but there were parts that bothered me. I despised Xavier's treatment of Melanie that were centered around coercion and degradation. If Melanie had given her consent, that would be different. Xavier simply wanted to break her spirit and make her be a good little pet, like some wild animal that needed taming. As the story progressed, I gained some understanding as to why he was like this and he became a much more sympathetic character. I think that the story could have benefited from hearing Xavier's POV also. I did find it a bit odd that Melanie was a virgin one day and a self-proclaimed sex fiend a day or two later.

Mel and Xavier had great sexual chemistry and were able to overcome their differences and progress into a loving relationship. Although the story was a little over the top, I started to enjoy it more and more as Xavier's background and motivations became clearer. The narration was okay, except the sex scenes were a little too enthusiastic and made me a bit uncomfortable. I almost felt like a creepy voyeur. The twist at the end was one that I didn't see coming. Unless a listener has issues with dubious consent, I would recommend The Virgin And The Beast.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is my honest opinion.
