O.K so it's like this ,this was the first of it's kind and it shows even the writer apologizes for the ending and rightly so although the views of the time where not her fault, however this is quite shocking ,some heavy issues are being tackled here ,I don't know if I would recommend this, apart from the fact the narrator sounds like she's reading the six o'clock news ,it's antagonizing in it's views .If your a Beebo Brinker fan I say give it a miss stick to Ann she learnt well from this.
What would have made Spring Fire better?
Nothing it was the first of it's kind ,and like many firsts it crashed and burned .
What was most disappointing about Vin Packer’s story?
It's not Vin Packers fault when this book was written ,even she apologizes for it's content at the beginning of this book , this was written in a time when being gay meant you where mentally ill in some fashion and should be punished for your sinful thoughts .
How could the performance have been better?
The performance is fine it's the content which is toxic.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Spring Fire?
The rape ,in all these early lesbian paperback novels it seems to be a staple , it was meant as a deterrent to young girls who fancied other young girls ,this is what happens to you if your gay....
Any additional comments?
Do your self a favor go and read the Beebo Brinker Chronicles they are available on Audible and they are fantastic leave this alone ,it paved the way for the lesbian paperback novel and Vic should be proud of that but it's just bad.
