Publisher's summary

Sometimes when it seems like it's too late, the right person comes along and opens your eyes.

Murphy is the continuing story of a D/s relationship between two Space Marines who found each other in the midst of hopelessness and misfortune.

Sarge and his newly minted squad travel across the galaxy on a top-secret mission that could help win the war. However, to Murphy, something about the mission stinks, and it's not just the planet they've landed on.

FIST 1 and 2 are great!

Bey Deckard has quite the imagination! He combines interesting elements within a futuristic military space unit. BTW the military is now privatized and constantly underfunded in order to keep investors making lots of money. Into this new military structure, Deckard adds buff men, a bit of dom/sub action, synesthesia, aliens, and lots of fighting action.
I would love to read more FIST stories, but doubt there will be any since the first and second book were written in 2015-2016.
Still glad I added them to my library.
Nick J. Russo performs with skill and feeling. Excellent narration!

Perfect blend of sensuality & hard-hitting action

What did you love best about Murphy?

Murphy is more than just a followup to Sarge. By changing the conditions, the locale, the circumstances and the position of each man within the military unit, both men must deal with some new insecurities as they struggle to come to terms with something foreign to them... feelings. The mission is new, but as they say... the more things change, the more they stay the same. This is no fluffy love story. These are tough men in tough times, doing the impossible and not always coming out on top. This novella is a perfect SciFi erotic adventure that I will enjoy over and over.

What other book might you compare Murphy to and why?

Obviously Sarge, which is Book 1 in the series. That said, this is a unique piece of storytelling: sensual, violent, gritty and raw. The descriptions are evocative, yet terse, the characters larger than life, yet vulnerable.

What does Nick J. Russo for Dark Night Sound bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It's the voice characterizations that really elevate this story to the next level. The affect and emotional connection between Murphy and Sarge is conveyed with tender toughness. The pacing of the narration is excellent, keeping the reader glued to the story. Nick J. Russo really impresses and I intend to look for more by this narrator.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

When war is just commerce by any other name, collateral damage can take unexpected turns...

Only Sarge yours, only yours ..

My! I teared up in the end. 😭 But I guarantee you! Those were happy tears! 💙 I loved the unique and comfortable relationship between Sarge and Murphy from book 1 but I fucking fell in love with these two in this sequel! OMG! I didn’t see that coming about Sarge! 😱 My, our old grumpy bear actually has a loving heart of gold. It was so satisfying to see their relationship blossomed into a bosom friendship, unwavering loyalty and tender affection and above all, a budding love! 😍 It was so sweet! ❤️ I actually want more adventures of these two gallivanting around space with their own spaceship. Thank you Bey Deckard and Nick J. Russo for such a fun, heartwarming and sweet, sexy listen! 👏 Loved it! 😍

quick read packs a big punch

Where does Murphy rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's near the top.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I really like how the narrator brings Sarge to life, but the author won me over with Murphy. I love Murphy.

Have you listened to any of Nick J. Russo’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I don't believe that I have, but he's definitely on my get more list now.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, definitely, I didn't want to stop once I had started listening.

Any additional comments?

This is a multi-layer tale. It's skeleton is military life. Military lingo and structure are very present. The outer is the sci-fi aspect. An alien war is taking place. Also genetic manipulation is possible. Many have bionic body parts. It's futuristic so the weapons, planets, aircraft, medicine—most everything is beyond the reader's normal. The inner is about a D/s relationship between to male soldiers growing into love. Yes, for the romance lovers, it even has heart, a hard soldiers' version of it.

Sarge is a grizzly, hot head, aged officer with more fighting experience than anyone. Murphy is his beastly huge, soft-spoken, intelligent partner in every way. (I love Murphy!) Together they make quite a formidable team. In this installment, they are sent on a mission where they soon discover that everything is not what it appears.

This author really has a way of making you fall in love (he kinda sneaks it on you) with his book characters while weaving an interesting fantasy world. The narration is perfect. It's exactly how I pictured their voices in my mind when I read the books the first time. Listening to the story made me feel everything deeper.

. I think the narrator made an amazing job

What did you love best about Murphy?

The voices given to the characters and how easily was to understand the transitions between them

Would you be willing to try another book from Bey Deckard? Why or why not?

Absolutely, this wasn't my favorite fro the author and yet it was really good, I can't wait to keep discovering new stories from him.

Which scene was your favorite?

There was a scene near the end that had some interesting twist and gives away the worst reaction we got to see from Sarge

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I'm not aswering that, I'm not good on such things

Any additional comments?

I think the narrator made an amazing job. I loved Murphy’s parts and I was kind of scared of his Sarge, I could definitely could see by his interpretation how the others could react to him. I loved the voices he gave to the characters, mostly to Murphy, maybe because I felt like a jumped every time Sarge started talking, but I did enjoyed both of them.

The pot was nice, I enjoyed the plot better than I did Sarge’s one. I have issues with military theme books and that might have alter my thoughts about the book. The part I enjoyed the most was Murphy and Sarge’s relationship, it wasn’t at all sweet, but I wasn’t looking for that kind of relationship here. It was great, and even though both men had a strong cover, there was definitely emotions there, it was really good.
