Publisher's summary

Rupert Brooke's greatest poetic works including "The Fish", "The Soldier", "The Old Vicarage", "Grantchester", and "Ding-Room Tea" are superbly melded here with testimony from acquaintances of Brooke's and a well-researched narrative by Mike Read.

In this comprehensive production including poetry, interviews, and biography, we hear about such intreguing areas of Brooke's life as the women in his complicated love life and the inspiration and source of his numerous revered poems. Brooke died at 27 years old on his way to fight the Turks in Gallipoli, buried abroad so there truly is now "some corner of a foreign field that is forever England".

LISTEN TO THE BEST OF POETRY!

I am very happy with my purchase of the audible 'Rupert Brooke - His Life and Poetry' by Mike Read. Rupert Brooke's Poetry simply comes to 'life' when recited by Douglas Hodge. One can 'read' poetry but I find the best way to enjoy good poetry is having it recited in a manner that one is transported to a time and place when one can visualize the world of the Poet....in this instance the world of Rupert Brooke. At times 'words' so powerful ...Poetry so beautiful...left me breathless. Poetry stirs up emotions and takes one to a very special mythical place. I loved The narration by Mike Read ...who gave a thorough insight into the life and times of Rupert Brooke. It was fascinating to learn so much about this Poet who died so young and who was so full of confidence...a brilliant Poet so very talented. His death came so suddenly and unexpectedly. A special touch was a poem of Rupert's narrated by someone he once loved. I highly recommend this audible for lovers of good poetry. I continue to enjoy the benefits of Poetry well read.

A good, good intro to Rupert Brooke

What did you love best about Rupert Brooke?

I liked the format very much, hearing the passionate sensual, lush, musical poetry of Rupert Brooke, as well as a well spoken, well-paced and informative accompanying story of his life, which sadly ended much too young. I'll listen to this again. However, can't give it five stars because it's not one of those few books that I am compelled to recommend to family, friends, acquaintances and even strangers.
