Publisher's summary

Love is a life-and-death risk for the Mountain Mercenaries in New York Times best-selling author Susan Stoker’s explosive series of alpha heroes, hot action, and hard passion....

Ever since his rescue op off the Pacific Coast, Mountain Mercenary Gray Rogers hasn’t been able to forget his latest “job”—Allye Martin. Any other woman would have panicked during a rescue, but the wily dancer kept her cool—even after being kidnapped by an elusive human trafficker. And Gray couldn’t be happier when a grateful Allye follows him home to Colorado Springs.... For Allye, finding sanctuary in the arms—and bed—of the former Navy SEAL is only temporary. People are disappearing off the streets of San Francisco, victims of the same underground trade that targeted her, and Allye could be the key to dismantling the entire operation. She’s willing to do anything to bring them down. Gray isn’t—for good reason. But you don’t say no to a tough girl like Allye who refuses to play it safe. Now Gray is risking more than ever before. The Mountain Mercenaries have his back. But is it enough to keep the woman he loves out of harm’s way?

My favorite so far.....

I like this book. I’ve listened to a few of her books and enjoyed this story and narration the best. I really like the women characters in her books, they are all real.
I’ve read some of the other reviews and all I have to say, is if you’re looking for a totally realistic story line, then romance novels aren’t for you. Also, some of the reviews say that the men in these books are a little too Neanderthal, macho, and dominating. Of course they are, they’re all Special Forces! But all the men treat the lead female character with respect and I appreciate that.
This book does have some explicit sex in it, but again, it’s a romance novel so don’t expect anything more.
It’s a good story line and it is the first in a series. If you like romance novels and a good adventure story rolled into one....you will enjoy this book.

Not my style ....TMI

I prefer a little more adventure and less sexual details. It all starts to sound the same after awhile, so I skipped over most of it.

Five Swoony Stars...

...and I have a new favorite color. Because Gray has stolen my heart. Wow, what an awesome, amazing, heart-melting, where-can-I-get-a-man-like-that story. Talk about a book hangover! This one will do it to you. Susan Stoker has an absolute winning combination with an intense plot, richly developed characters who will capture your heart, and a smokin' hot romance.

Our hero, Gray, *swoon* is a former SEAL who rescues a professional dancer from thugs who have kidnapped her for a human trafficking ring. Unfortunately, the sicko is really bent on having his tiny dancer, so she's not out of danger yet. Lucky for Allye, Gray is really interested in keeping her safe. and warm. and happy. and satisfied. Yep, Gray and Allye are two of those people that just fit together--like pipe fittings welded together. Once they met, it was all over for both of them. Kismet. They belong together. It's blindingly beautiful.

But it ain't gonna' be easy. Because somewhere out there is a very wealthy, very crazy man who thinks Allye belongs to him. Simply because he's paid for her.

Readers should be aware that this story line does involve adult situations including potential trigger points such as kidnapping and rape. The antagonist in this story deals in human trafficking, which is never a nice topic--it's sick. The author has done an awesome job with the storyline. There is violence and psychological deviance, but it's handled well and not over the top. The bedroom scenes are also quite passionate and intense. Definitely an 18+ read. These aren't complaints, merely observations for those that may find them concerning. I personally found this to be a wonderful read, one that I completely enjoyed and highly endorse.

Eh, it's ok.

All the men seemed to be a little neanderthal-ish.
The book moved along slowly. It seemed the team seamed to be good at what they did, but only in the beginning and the end.

Storyline ok.. writing was horrible

got through the whole thing because the storyline kept you wanting to know what would happen. the sex writing could be alot more intellectual. Dont get me wrong, I love good sex scenes, 50 Shades is one of my favorites, if written well but unintelligent wording is just laughable for a suspense romance.

Just OK.

This was my first book by Stoker. It was OK. I do like Stella Bloom as the narrator. Her voice and inflections were spot on.
I have to warn that this book was quite weighed down with a lot of Criminal Minds kind of crap than I expected. While the intense pieces were not long, they do leave an imprint. Human trafficking, torture, human mutilation...etc. It does have an HEA tho.

Probably for someone younger than I am.

A good story but too much explicit, repetitive sex and gore for me. Also many of the scenes were so improbable as too be ridiculous. For example carrying on a lengthy conversations at night while swimming for their lives in the middle of the ocean.

The Best Book So Far

I've read other books by this Author, but this is the best one and bonus it's the first in this series. The narration is spot on.

Tastes Differ

Stoker generally writes a good tale. Her books are more creative than is usual in this genre. This particular selection , however, despite the Charlie’s Angels Reversed trope and disturbing subject matter ( human trafficking), had a far greater proportion than usual in her books of repetitive, relentless, explicit, unnecessary, and, ultimately, extremely boring sex scenes.

I prefer books that are heavier on plot and characters and much lighter on erotica.

Meh

I finished it but probably won't listen to any more books in the series. One of the traits of the heroine Allye was that she was always rolling her eyes. Our hero Gray found her "sassiness"appealing. In response I rolled my eyes every time there was a descriptive sex scene.
