Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Kimberla Lawson Roby has made a name for herself with such engaging novels as Casting the First Stone and Here and Now.

In The Best of Everything, Roby employs her trademark storytelling prowess to relate the tale of a woman whose life is complicated by the fact that her father is none other than Reverend Curtis Black.

Alicia Black Sullivan swore to never repeat her father's mistakes: she would never break any promises, she would never be unfaithful. And most important of all, when she got married, it would be for good. And she really does love Phillip, the assistant pastor of her father's church. She just happens to love money - and the things it can buy - as well.

Alicia was born to the good life, she's entitled to the best, and she'll do anything to get it. Even if it means piling up thousands of dollars in debt. Even if it means denying to everyone - even herself - that her love of shopping has gotten way out of control.

No better than a bad made for TV movie.

This was such a predictable, silly book. The characters were not developed. The plot was predictable and rather dull.

The reader is horrible, horrible, horrible! A total waste of a credit.

Boring

It took just to long to get into this book. the narrators voice was not right for this book. Its not what I expected and the book itself is not what I thought it would be. I guess I am just looking for another Curtis Black and that is not what this is about.

A rewarding read

I like to shop, but thank goodness I'm not this bad! She was so spoiled, irresponsible and selfish that I didn't feel sorry for her at all. It was good to see the Rev. Curtis Black's spawn get what she deserved. Definitely a good read!

Good read!

I enjoyed this book, but felt that Alisha's character development could have been stronger, and an attempt to connect her childhood experiences with Pastor Curtis Black would have made the book better. I think that the author did a great job with Alisha's husband's character development. I enjoyed the book overall, and I would recommend it to others who enjoy this author.

Good read

I am such a fan of this series! Alicia's storyline isn't as interesting to me as that of Curtis and Charlotte, though.

Redundant

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I only recommend it if you are reading the series in order.

What was most disappointing about Kimberla Lawson Roby’s story?

I listened to this book simply because I am listening to the entire series on Curtis Black. So I struggled to get through it because it seems like the ENTIRE story talks about her shopping everywhere. I wish there was more to the story but it was very redundant. It makes no sense how she writes about her trips to the mall or her spending habits in EVERY chapter.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I hated the voice of the narrator.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

NO.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR CREDIT

I'm thinking about returning this book for my credit. Lacks character development, narration hard to get through due to the unnecessary dramatic pauses. Worst book from this series and I've totally thought a few of the others could have been better. Took me almost a week to get through because and it was a battle. Just seems like things that happened in the previous books were rearranged and thrown into this book. JUST BAD ALL AROUND

UGH

I was so tired about hearing about Alicia's addiction! All the shopping and Fashion Names started driving me CRAZY! This was the first time I had to make myself listen to the end of the book. Please tell me the rest of the series doesn't do me the way this book did? If so, I need to stop right here

Horrible

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Better narrator you could not tell which of the characters were talking at the time. I could not connect with the characters. The story moved really SLOOOOOWWW. It was boring to me and hard to finish.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I might read the next book in the series, hopefully it will be better than this one.

What didn’t you like about Caroline Clay’s performance?

Her voice was the same for all of the characters.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Best of Everything?

Theres a lot I would cut out.
