Editorial reviews

The Urban Messiah is a live stand-up special by veteran funnyman Al Toomer. For 43 minutes in front of a very appreciative audience, the smooth-talking and often profane comedian throws out jokes and barbs that critiques everything from the cult of celebrity to homosexuality to the hypocrisy of religion.

While perhaps not recommended for those with sensitive ears, Urban Messiah is better geared for listeners who appreciate the inherent humor in a good controversial statement told straight.

Publisher's summary

The wait is over! Our deliverer is finally here. Comedian/social commentator Al Toomer tells it like it is in Urban Messiah.

This hard-hitting, in-your-face collection of material gets right to the heart of the matter with each and every track. Born in the backwoods of Albany, Georgia, and educated on the mean streets of South Central L.A., Toomer brings a world-weary outlook to the topics facing us all. He exposes the hypocrisy of celebrity idol worship, lays bare the intricacies of our relationships, and pulls no punches when discussing our faiths and religions. In short, Al Toomer has come to set our minds free, and do so he does.

With a mix of country-boy logic and big-city wiles, Toomer lays things out as they truly are in hilarious fashion. A regular on BET's Comicview and the international club circuit, he puts it down like it was his destiny to do so. Smooth and self assured, laid back and confrontational, Al combines all the elements we've waited so long to hear from a man of the mike.

This will not only have you bowing down to the gut-splitting truth, but is also bound to make you one of this talented artist's many disciples.

This guy is funny. Some of the language may be a bit coarse, but you will laugh!! I've never taken this off of my iPod and surely have listened to it double digit times. He is certainly worthy of wider exposure.
