Publisher's summary

When a gang of film-star look-alikes decide to try and con a Hollywood producer into financing their bogus blockbuster movie, they know it's the biggest gamble of their lives but looking like the biggest flange of film-stars ever assembled to make a movie, has got to help. The Great Hollywood Double Hustle invites you into the curious world of a desperate gang of film-star look-alikes who are prepared to risk everything to escape what they consider to be, their dysfunctional Doppelgänger fate.

Prepared to take on predatory Hollywood producers and unscrupulous agents that stand in their way, they are not so well prepared when their financial backer, a low-life porn-producer with an axe to grind against the Hollywood machine, starts looking as trustworthy as a chocolate teapot. It doesn't help the group dynamic that their Brad Pitt look-alike egotistically believes that he is far more attractive than his real star counter-part and even worse, he is probably right. Worse still their George Clooney look-alike; a farmer's son from the Welsh valleys, looks exactly like the real Hollywood star but unfortunately can only sound like a farmer's son from the Welsh valleys. For their leader, a perfect Danny DeVito lookalike called Stanley, none of these problems are insurmountable but what scares him most is the fact that, if it all goes wrong, they will all go to prison for a very long time, or as George would put it, “Be in total shit”. Read by the amazingly talented comedian and impersonator Anil Desai, be prepared to listen to a soundalike of all your favourite Hollywood stars as he brings to life this entertaining romp. Look no further for your laugh-out-loud bawdy beach book this summer, The Great Hollywood Double Hustle is a laugh-a-minute look-alike winner!

rollicking celebrity farce

This book was a rollicking good time that I could imagine in my mind's eye as a movie. The plot was ludicrous but if you let yourself go with the farcical nature of the thing, it was fun to be swept up in the action. The book started really strongly, and while the plot lines all pulled together pretty neatly by the end, I did notice a decreasing attention to editing as the book went on. I was a little confused by the fact that some of the celebrities were named by their real life name and others were "hidden" by a rhyming version of the famous name instead. The narrator did a good job, with some great celebrity impressions along the way.

Entertaining and rambunctious farce, if a bit silly.

Brilliant comedy caper! 'Oceans 11' with a twist!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Great Hollywood Double Hustle to be better than the print version?

Absolutely, the characters and comedy really come alive.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Great Hollywood Double Hustle?

I was looking for a fun audiobook to listen to whilst relaxing on the beach so thought I would give this one a go and I was not disappointed.
This audiobook had me rolling in the aisles as they say as I listened to a great ensemble cast of characters as they try to get away with conning some major Hollywood producers.
I love films and was blown away by the amount comic references to some classic movies I spotted. The twists and turns that keep on surprising you and building the tension to the very end make you feel like your watching a film in your head, and the great thing is, you know what all the characters look like! If you want an audiobook that keeps on delighting and surprising you to the very end check this one out. A "Five star” comedy classic audiobook that hopefully one day will be a classic movie.

What about Anil Desai’s performance did you like?

Whats brilliant is that Anil Desai, the reader of the book, seems to be able to mimic all the voices of the stars to perfection. One minute you are listening to Brad Pitt, Dustin Hoffman and Samuel L Jackson having a row and the next, Danny De Vito is trying to talk one of the producers, who sounds just like Al Pacino, into backing their pretend film project.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes - and I did!!!

Any additional comments?
