Story
A wealthy and depressed man (thanks to the economy, he's not quite rich enough to expand his cache of paintings by Vincent Van Guy, the famed Dutch realist) bound for Christmas in the tropics is abruptly summoned home to North Dakota to visit an ailing aunt. He arrives just in time to be trapped there by a blizzard. The electricity goes out, and when it does, figures from his childhood appear, and historical figures too, for a festive candlelit holiday.

We never know what will happen next in Florida. We know only that, any minute now, something will. Every few months, Dave Barry gets a call from some media person wanting to know, "What the hell is wrong with Florida?" Somehow, the state's acquired an image as a subtropical festival of stupid, and as a loyal Floridian, Dave begs to differ. Sure, there was the 2000 election. And people seem to take their pants off for no good reason. And it has flying insects the size of LeBron James. But it is a great state, and Dave is going to tell you why.

That stammer. Those basset-hound eyes. That bone-dry wit. There has never been another comedian like Bob Newhart. In this, his first audiobook ever, Newhart gives his brilliant and bemused twist on a multitude of topics, including flying, the trials of a family holiday in a Winnebago, and more serious subjects, such as golf. And, of course, there are side-splittingly funny stories from his life and career. Who else has a drinking game named after him? ("Hi, Bob!")

On the 12th floor of the Acme Building, on a cold February day in St. Paul, Guy Noir looks down the barrel of a loaded revolver in the hands of geezer gangster Joey Roast Beef, who is demanding to hear what lucrative scheme Guy is cooking up with stripper-turned-women's-studies-professor Naomi Fallopian. Didn't provide the gut busting humor expected
(As posted in Goodreads)
"Great humorists?" Decidedly. "Great humor"? Definitely mixed; I am decidedly getting jaded. I certainly am familiar with the artists, and I have been known to laugh, even. But I was hoping for great belly laughs of humor, and that was definitely not the case. I was probably expecting unreasonably too much which set me up for disappointment. Sigh. Probably entirely my own fault.

Sorry Dave. You have overdone boogers.
Would you try another book from the authors and/or the narrators?
Maybe. I'm looking for funny and laughter. Can't find much to laugh about doing cancer.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Am still looking.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
No real problem with narrator. Material just not that funny.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment.
Any additional comments?
Actually, I liked "1000 Years of Laughter" better, and it started with monk's riddles.
