Publisher's Summary

Here are the first four episodes from the classic BBC radio comedy starring Kenneth Horne, Kenneth Williams, Hugh Paddick, Betty Marsden, Ron Moody, and Pat Lancaster. Between 1958 and 1964, Beyond Our Ken lit up the airwaves. A madcap mix of sketches and songs, packed with puns, parody and inspired characters, it remains as fresh and funny today as when it was first broadcast. Kenneth Williams and company indulge in a spot of announcer-baiting, and find out about Kenneth Horne's many highly eventful weeks. And of course there's documentary feature "Hornerama", in which you learn about atomic power with Professor Stanley Unwin. In addition, join roving reporter Cecil Snaith to find out what the public is reading; flip through the pages of the "Sketch Book 1908" and appreciate art with the help of Charles and Rodney. Join genial host Kenneth Horne and his ensemble (with musical entertainment from Pat Lancaster and The Malcolm Mitchell Trio) in this fantastic forerunner to Round the Horne.

Puns Galore Great Brit Comedy

I discovered this program in reruns on the BBC over the internet so when I saw the title was available I couldn't resist. The humor is wonderful and I have to wonder how they "got away with it" back in the 1950s. This first collection is just a taste of how the show would eventually deepen and become laugh out loud hilarious. This first season it is finding its footing. The comic timing isn't quite there yet and some of the characters that would later become familiar haven't totally taken root but this collection is good just the same. If you like British humor, have a sense for wordplay and from your history class can remember some of the topical events of the time then you will love this series - Can't wait for the next set to be available. Caution listening on your MP3 player at work can cause folks to stare at you as you laugh uncontrollably.
