Ghosts and a creepy tower!

Morgan inherits her eccentric father's estate when he passes. He was never a part of her life until his death. She gre up poor struggling for everything and suddenly has a fortune and mansiin with a chilling history. It still contains furnishings from the first owners and a ghost or two.

For a short story the author uses good pacing and builds a suspenseful tale using small details and descriptions. She drops clues throughout without giving away too much at a time. It's difficult to build intrigue in so few pages but she does it. I wanted to know what was going to happen next so listened to the entire story in one sitting.

the storyline evolved well with solid characters

Morgan our heroine goes from a strapped beginning and has a financial windfall over night; an inheritance she receives from her father. But along with the inheritance comes a ghost, mystery and romance. I listened in one day...while driving and the time flew by it was an attention grabber. I liked the way the storyline evolves. The characters were solid and it will keep you guessing till the end! I recommend this audible.

I don't think I would read it again as I loved it and know most everything that happened.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not really on the edge til the last couple of chapters. Brother came out of nowhere.

When they finally had hope for a new beginning.

This was an ok book.It could have been the poor narration that put me off.The woman who moved into the haunted house was wimpy and fickle.The male characters were one dimensional and a bit dim witted as narrated by Daniela Acitelli.Had she read it just in her voice at a steady clip it would have been better.The ending was just bad.I was given this book free by the author, narrator or publisher.

Not quite what I was expecting. Overall the story was entertaining and enjoyable. It kept my attention. I was expecting a little more of a mystery/thriller though.

Suspense, mystery and creepiness with a little romance on the side.

The book was not long enough to build both the suspense and romance aspects of the story. So both sides of the story suffered. By the title you really expect the tower to be a main part of the storyline but it's not. The story started out great then just kind of fizzled out in the last few chapters.

It's also annoying when the main character is the TSTL type. Example's: You hear strange things and see an odd person in your yard, you don't get a cat from the shelter you get the biggest dog you can find. You find a room with disturbing content and the local priest offers to bless/cleanse the house, you jump on that sh*t right away.

Daniela Acitelli did a good job with the narration. Pleasant voice. Clearly spoken. Nice even pace of narration. Some good character voices, then some of her male voices sounded like Elmer Fudd. Which she may have been aiming for. I have listened to many books she has narrated and her character voices have always been great. She did bring the story and the characters to life. Very enjoyable

A manly man listens to a gothic romance...

Ok, I'm not really a manly man. Just your average dad, husband, software engineer. I won't go into details why I am in the situation where I'm reviewing a gothic romance book. Just be assured there was a bet between friends, maybe a weekend in Vegas, and the consequences of losing said bet might be a forced choice between listening to this audio book and reviewing it, or performing illegals things on a innocent goat. I'm glad I chose the former, as this book was a good listen! I'm sure the goat is relieved as well.

The main character of this book, Morgan, inherits a spooky house. As she settles in and learns its history, she becomes the target of affection by one or more suitors (no spoilers here!). As the story progresses, you as the listener learn the secrets of the house. The narrative wholly centers around Morgan, and it could easily have been written in the 1st person, as no scenes were without her.

Is there anything groundbreaking in the story? Not really. It's a romance. It checks all the boxes that romance novels need checked. Not that I'm highly proficient in what those boxes should be, considering I'm an average dad, husband, and software engineer. an interesting note is that the story was devoid of sex. Don't get me wrong, there was definite sexual tension, but you won't find any Fifty Shades stuff here, or bodices ripped, or even bad things done to goats... And it's not that I don't LIKE sex in my stories, don't get me wrong! it just would have ripped me out of the spell the narrator was weaving, and reminded me that I was being forced to listen to a GIRLY ROMANCE BOOK. Ugh. Cooties.

Speaking of the narrator: she was was amazing. Daniela's voice is pure silk. She has a gift for narration. It's not easy for females narrators to perform deep male voices, let alone multiple characters and give them a unique sound. But she succeeded and gave each male a slight nuance that made it easy to discern who was who. She held my attention throughout the performance and I forgot at many points I was listening to a girly romance novel. I highly recommend picking this book up just for her performance, as well as anything else read by Ms. Acitelli.

Or you could pick this up because you like gothic romance books. Be forewarned: based on fact that this is book 1, don't expect a tidy bow to be put on the ending.

In the end it, wasn't so bad. I survived the listen. I'm still a average dad, husband, software engineer. I would even venture to say I enjoyed the experience, and would do it again.

There guys, it's done. My debt is fulfilled. Now burn those damn pictures!

Bad ending

What a great story. I was so into this story. I was on the edge of my seat and couldn't wait to start listening each day. I didn't like the way the narrator pronounced things when talking with any of the male characters (slow and deliberate).
This book doesn't stand on its own. It just stops and you need the next book to continue the story. I don't like books that can't stand on their own.

A modern gothic with mystery, suspense , romance, and strange noises and things that go bump in the dark. This quick listen was ok, but felt a bit rushed. The author had a good storyline going, but didn't flesh it out into a full length novel.


The narration was well done.The characters were well portrayed. Daniela Acitelli gave a good performance as always.

Decent Romance / Scary Story

This is an average scary story/romance audiobook. I liked the premise of the book and many of its elements a lot. I'm not much of a fan of romance stories, but the book description sounded good... So needless to say that I found the romance aspect a little dull. I also a few of the aspects of the story a little unbelievable. At only about 3 1/2 hours, I would have also liked it to be a little longer instead of carrying over to the next book. However, all-in-all I thought the story was decent and I would definitely recommend it if you like or don't mind romance books.

The narrator was good for most of the story, but some of her voices seemed a little ridiculous... She was otherwise a good narrator, but the voices bothered me.
