Publisher's summary

Probably the most shocking of the Brontës' novels, this novel had an instant and phenomenal success and is widely considered to be one of the first sustained feminist novels. A mysterious widow, Mrs. Helen Graham, arrives at Wildfell Hall, a nearby old mansion. A source of curiosity for the small community, the reticent Helen and her young son Arthur are slowly drawn into the social circles of the village.

Narrator ruins this classic

Ms. Aliotta reads as if she needs to use the facilities and cannot go until she finishes the book. Listening to her rapid fire delivery actually sped up my heart rate. Not worth the $2.00 it costs or the space it takes up on your ipod.

Great story, poor narration

I listen to a lot of books and sadly only seem to review them to warn people of poor or intolerable narration so here it is! This is a lovely book with great imagery only to be constantly interrupted by staccato narration that is often so inaudible or dropped in volume as to make me want to purchase a different recording. I suggest you do!

Beautifully written

This story was a charming look back into the horrible circumstances that a married couple found themselves in. Deceit, controlling actions, and fear of poverty...it is all in there and much more.

This is one of my favorite books.

This book is fantastic. I loved in when I read it in an English lit at 18 years old. I loved it again at 50 years old. It portrays, quite well, the thoughts and experiences of a betrayed and abused wife.

Anne Brontë is the least gothic Brontë

Tenant at Wildfell Hall reads more like Jane Austen than either of the Brontë sisters. It lacks the gothic chill of Jane Eyre and the ghostly misery of Wuthering Heights, and focuses more on straightforward relationships.

Not a bad book, but it’s not going to be one of my favorites.

A classic story deserves a more adept reader

How did the narrator detract from the book?

With material that is so well known the reader should check the material. There were so many mispronounced words that I could hardly follow the story in places. Ms. Agliotta needs to get a dictionary and learn how to use it.

Beautiful

Beautifully written and extremely under appreciated. Most definitely matches any of her sisters works. I wish she had the same recognition as both Emily and Charlotte.

Mostly enjoyable

It was okay. Anne is not my favorite Bronte sister. Was expecting more gothic mystery/horror.

Poor performance

Performance wasnt good. It was confusing that narrator is a Young male in his 20s but performer is an adult woman.
Second, she didnt acted different voces for each character. In general im not satisfied with this audiobook.

Poor reader; great story

If you care about language, then this is a painful rendition. I lost count of the grossly mispronounced words. Eg scions as sky-ons, paroxysms as perry-oxisms, etc. the story is well worth hearing but the reader also makes no attempt to change voices for different characters. Very disappointed.
