Great stories but hard for me to listen to

I loved the stories in this audiobook- typical Arthur Conan Doyle. However, the see-sawing lilting narration completed distracted me from the story being read. The narrator read the stories as one might read a story to a child. I cringed the whole time but persevered simply because of my love of Arthur Conan Doyle's writing. Listen to a sample of the narration before buying this. She may sound lovely to you and if so, you will enjoy the audiobook.

Exaggerated, strange reading, fabulous stories.

Would you try another book from Arthur Conan Doyle and/or Cathy Dobson?

The reader is, perhaps, hamming it up -- adding intonations and dramatic weird pauses. It gets in the way of the stories, which are of course great.
