Publisher's Summary

Rose Aubrey is one of a family of four children. Their father, Piers, is the disgraced son of an Irish landowning family, a violent, noble, and quite unscrupulous leader of popular causes. His Scottish wife, Clare, is an artist, a tower of strength, fanatically devoted to a musical future for her daughters. This is the story of their life in south London, a life threatened by Piers's streak of tragic folly which keeps them on the verge of financial ruin and social disgrace....

One of my favorite book - now in audio!

Would you listen to The Fountain Overflows again? Why?

Yes. I've read this book many times and the audio is a great enhancement.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Fountain Overflows?

The scene in Kew Gardens, where the family deal with grief by enjoying the beauty of the lapageria vine.

Which scene was your favorite?

Where Rose and her mother visit Constance and Rosamund for the first time, with exciting results.

Any additional comments?

This book has so much depth - it's wonderful in its details about music and education; it's a great family story; everything I say is only one facet of the plot. Well worth reading and listening to!

A masterpiece!

Those reviewers who call this boring simply do not understand the novel. This story features art, music, murder, mental telepathy, and a poltergeist! This is a study of character and family brilliantly written and beautifully delivered. I cannot believe it has taken me all these years to discover this author. I will be moving on to the other two novels in this series about the trials and triumphs of this quirky family.

Charming, entertaining and poignant

I enjoyed the story of the artistic and high-minded if chaotic Aubrey family. The father in his great struggles for the underdog and less noble speculations in commodities; the musical mother and her kind-hearted and highly strung character and the children, each with their own foibles. Through in the exaggeratedly Scots-speaking cousin, murder, poltergeists and mind-reading and you are in for an enjoyable listen, nicely read by Harriet Carmichael.
