Publisher's summary

Through his imagined journals of Adam and Eve, Mark Twain wrote what has been called “one of the great love stories of all time.” Mandy Patinkin and Betty Buckley bring Adam and Eve to life, capturing the expected humor as well as the tender eloquence of Twain’s most personal, heartfelt writing. In one of his last recordings, Walter Cronkite provides an illuminating commentary on how the author came to reinterpret the Genesis story. This expanded edition, unlike any other version, incorporates previously unpublished passages as well as Mark Twain’s mislaid final revision of “Adam’s Diary.”

An interesting listen

As an agnostic, this has no religious value to me, but I will say it was a interesting listen and point of view. Worth a read / listen.

a perfect performance

This might be the best produced audio book of them all. The acting was perfect. It is Mark Twain and we all know what to expect from him, so I don't feel the need to review the subject matter. It is classic Twain

Original, funny, well read!

Cleverly funny, tender, and they couldn't have found anyone better to perform it. This might be the best of the nearly 100 audible book I have bought to date!

Worth it for the performances too

A hilarious bit of writing from one of the greatest American writers, performed wonderfully. And because it needs said: Expectations for men and women were different when this was written. In its day I imagine this was incredibly progressive. Even now it is full of wisdom and keen perception. Well worth the time and money.

twisted, tormented, timeless

thoughtfully done, with simple words
complex thought, and imperfect reason
sorrowful moments, with happy veins
once again, a perfect book.

Simply beautiful

Incredible and heart-wrenching performance by 2 amazing artists. Walter Kronkite is simply wonderful as well. The writing is Sam Clemens at his very finest. Simply beautiful. It stays with you.

Peculiar

What remarkable book. I began listening to it immediately upon finishing The Adventures of Tom Sawyer performed by Nick Offerman. I mean, like 5 minutes later. The first part of this book, up to the middle of Chapter 6, was most certainly not performed by Mandy Patinkin. It was Nick Offerman or I'm a monkey's uncle!

I understand this particular production was cobbled together from other recordings. I knew that going in. But if you sell it to me as Mandy Patinkin, you can bet I'll be a little mystified to hear what is clearly and obviously Nick Offerman! There's no mistaking his voice and inflection.

So why not credit another voice artist?

That said, I loved it. Mark Twain will always be the greatest. It's plain in his speaking in Adam's voice (or Offerman's) of how he loved his dear Livy.

THAT said, the music was distracting and went on waaay too long. Sometimes half the length of a chapter. Clip out at least half the music and it would enhance the experience.
