Publisher's summary

For years, the Greeks have lain siege to the walls of Troy, the final act in the greatest war the ancient world has ever seen. Rivers of blood have been shed in the fight, but it takes one man to end the conflict: the brilliant strategist Ulysses, who defeats the Trojans with a simple trick - a wooden horse with an army inside. Victorious, Ulysses and his men prepare to make the long trip home to Ithaca. It will be an odyssey to remember.

At every step, Ulysses' path is blocked by warriors, monsters, and the gods. He battles a Cyclops, a sorceress, and worse, but this valiant leader never falters. For beyond the seas lies his beloved wife, and he will not rest until he is by her side once more.

Sequel to the 2015 Audie Award-nominated title Heroes, Gods and Monsters of the Greek Myths, one of the best-selling mythology books of all time.

the best story telling I have ever heard

Perhaps it's to soon , the images have yet to leave my imagination. Marvelous storytelling!
I have heard many master storytellers, but NONE finer than this. I shall give the highest compliment I can, I Shall pass this to my children.

Wonderful performance!

I read this book a member of a review committee, so it is not one I would have chosen to read (listen to) for myself, but I quite enjoyed these stories of Ulysses. They were brought to life by an incredibly talented narrator, which made this such an enjoyable book to listen to. It made me want to look into other books featuring characters and stories in mythology.

SO incredibly boring!

This is a book that I would never, ever read for fun, or by choice. I was required to read it to my students. I couldn't read the even drier book, so I bought this audible with the hopes that it would intrigue me. Nope. Just as boring.

It was one of the best Greek mythology book I’ve ever listened to, but I would not give this to anyone under 7.

Very good. I really liked it. I would give it 4.8 stars because there was some parts I didn’t love.

A Trip Back In Time

I discovered Bernard Evslins interpretations & retellings of Greek myth when I was in grade school in the 80’s & fell in love with his gift for describing people, places, actions & feelings. He wasn’t afraid of adjectives & used them well. I also think he had a great knack for dialogue & making the elevated language of Homer & other ancients feel more natural to our modern ears. Especially for young people. He doesn’t hold back on the violence or even innuendo & even musings on immortality & death but still keeps it friendly for young readers. I felt like an adult reading him as a kid. This is the one of his books I lost my hard copy of & listening to it took me back. It’s a terrific interpretation of THE ODYSSEY the whole family can follow & enjoy & the reader sounds a lot like John Hurt. They do a great job with the older male characters & an interesting variation on a couple women, but could’ve used more “charactery” voices on monsters who spoke & the Olympians. It’s still a great way for an entire family ranging in ages from 10 to 100 to listen to a version of THE ODYSSEY they all can enjoy.

Fantastic retelling

I’ve listened to other versions of The Odyssey, but they were dry and felt, well, old. This version brought the story to life, and I couldn’t wait to hear what was next. Top notch narration to boot.

Wonderful!

About as good as it gets in my experience with not a few audiobooks. Author and narrator both first rate. An engaging adventure from first word to last.
