A classic tale that is still worth a listen.

This is a very old and well known story that is still around in popular culture. It was nice to hear it in its original splendor and entirety. The narrator did a good job of giving life to the few characters of this story.

A HEN PECKED HUSBAND

MARRIED TO A SHREW
We all know someone like Rip. An easy going guy who gets along with everyone, but is a bit on the lazy side. Some authors take hours to build a character, Irving does it in mere minutes and tells a whole story.

Unabridged
As a elementary kid, I had heard the abridged version. It does not do justice to the unabridged version and Sisco reads it well. This was one of my favorites as a child for the whimsy of the strange men in the mountains, nine pins and a 20 year nap. As an adult I love the complexity of the story and the look at American History.

Loved it!

Nice to finally read this classic. At times, I sincerely wish I could share in some of that Hudson moonshine

Best Thirty-Seven Minute Fairy Tale on Audible

Rip Van Winkle is the tale of an unhappily married man on a journey towards idleness married with impunity. Irving's a master of language whose created a lexical texture describing time and place. The narrator, Curits Sisco, achieved the appropriate meter and emphasis; however, sometimes he rushes listed sections inappropriately or slows too long for character's voices. Rip Van Winkle easily fits into the tradition of short classical fantasy. Other stories like it include: The Facts Concerning the Recent Carnival of Crimes in Connecticut by Mark Twain, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, or A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

Narrator character voice annoying

I liked the narrator all except his interpretation of Rip's voice in his young years.

Classic story; crisp narration.

Classic story of the idle man who inadvertently sleeps twenty years, and returns to a changed world. Crisp, well-paced narration.

Main narrator was excellent; secondary ones not so

Any additional comments?

The vast majority of the book was by the main narrator, so the secondary voices (possibly the main narrator taking on additional voices) was at most a minor annoyance.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Rip Van Winkle is a good story, this version however lacks bothe preface and epilog, which sets the mood of the sotry, so choose another version

I listened to it for a class project and it is a very interesting story and how it all comes back to the marital status between a man and a woman it's worth listening to
