Publisher's summary

"Persuasion" is the last novel of Jane Austen's.

As the Napoleonic Wars come to an end in 1814, Admirals and Captains of the Royal Navy are put ashore, their work done. Anne Elliot meets Captain Frederick Wentworth after seven years, by the chance of his sister and brother-in-law renting her father's estate, while she stays for a few months with her married sister, living nearby. They fell in love the first time they met, but she broke off the engagement...

Besides the theme of persuasion, the novel evokes other topics, with which Austen was familiar: the Royal Navy, in which two of Jane Austen's brothers rose to the rank of admiral; and the superficial social life of Bath.

!

I wish she had recorded this in a studio but I still enjoyed it greatly! Her performance in Mansfield Park made me want her for this book.

Pleasing Story, Sound Needs Work

The story of Anne Elliot & Captain Wentworth is a lovely tale of second chances. It is my favorite of Jane Austen's work.

There are several choices in Audible. I listened to the samples to find a voice that was pleasing to my ears. It took some time and I was happy to find this version. It was very pleasant until around chapter 19 or 20. The sound quality was that of someone turning off a filter that keeps recording from having a tinny/in a tunnel sound. Still clear enough to hear the story, but not so pleasant to listen to...so disappointed!!!!!

HORRIBLE NARRATION!!!

I cannot believe ANY Producer would allow this narration to be released! Not only was there very little voice inflection, respect to the story or allowance for character differentiation, but this narrator gave speed reading a new meaning! I believe she was vying for the Guiness Record for how quickly a story could be narrated! - the only thing that was a decent pace - actually over delayed - was the pause in between chapters. I am thankful I did not pay for this Audible story as I suffered through 6 chapters and then had to throw in the towel. What a disrepect to Jane Austen!!!
