Great Listening Experience
I read Northanger Abbey well over a decade ago, and I was truly impressed at the "listening" experience of the book versus actually reading. The narrator did a wonderful job with the story and having lived in London for 2 years and loving every bit of the British accent, it was a pure delight to listen to the splendid voice of Harriet Stevens.
Another big plus that added to the listening experience was the actual audio quality. While I was comparing the different samples on Audible, I noticed Stevens' version of the audio was mastered very well and didn't contain any breath sounds or any buzzing/humming sounds the microphone often picks up.
Overall a great Jane Austen book/narration to listen to!

Story gets better each time I read it.
Story gets better each time I read it. The narrator read Thorpe quite well. She made her voice to be as grating as I had always believed Thorpe's voice would be.

Disappointing narration
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Better narration. Sadly this was stilted and the language didn't flow well at all, which made it an effort to listen to. Even if the language is old fashioned, it can become accessible with good narration. I just had the sense that words were being read rather than a story told.
What did you like best about this story?
Classic Jane Austen
Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Harriet Stevens?
Lindsay Duncan - I enjoyed her reading of Pride and Prejudice
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I like the story and did like listening to it; it could just have been much more enjoyable.

Not enjoying the narration
Not enjoying the narration. Disappointing. Great story. There must be better versions of this on Audible. I did get it on offer.
