Publisher's summary

Michel Vuillermoz (the 1st) is a really bad reader

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The other guys read really well, but I feel the need to rate the performance really low to attract attention to the fact that the first book needs to be reread.

There's no life to what he reads. His tone never matches the scene and sometimes go through some sentences as if there's no points and comma and he's just doing his best to pronounce words after words.

Un Chef-d'oeuvre de tous les temps

Where does Les Misérables : L'intégrale rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The best by far. Of course for fluent French speaking people.

What did you like best about this story?

The most vivid of early 19th century historical background

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

All five narrators had different talents and they were all sincere and passionate

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Les Miserables!

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed all the many digressions. The one that would be most difficult for non French speakers would be the one on "argot". It can be skipped.

Narrator is brilliant

I’m primarily reviewing the recording.

I was delighted by the subtle variations employed by the narrator to distinguish characters. At once they are almost imperceptible, and yet admirably representative.

Perfect way to read Victor Hugo's entire book

I was very pleased with everything about Victor Hugo's creation. I am not good at expressing myself but I will say that I looked forward each day to the pleasure of listening and falling in love or exasperation with the characters who are so imperfectly human. The time spent on the history of the period was worth the read and is certainly an important part of this worldly novel.

Worth the trouble to hear the whole thing

Such a great story and even though Hugo goes off on some pretty long tangents if you are a history buff you got a love the detail. This is such a great complement to the musical version and film versions of the story since it gives you so much more background on all the different characters

Best (long) novel I've heard so far!!!

The author has a great mastery of the French language and uses it in its majestic beauty. The plotline is really good! In many ways it feels strange that Les Miserables was written so long ago; the work seems strikingly relevant to contemporary ears. I came to this novel, partly because of the movie/musical of a few years back. However as they say: "the book always beats the movie" -- and it was a great movie! Victor Hugo disolay a simple but profound knowledge of human complexity played out in the grand context of the famed French revolution(s). The readers had all a good performance. Detailed descriptions (and digressions) in the book might feel overly elaborate at times, making the listener want to jump forward to the actual description of the events, but it is worth sticking through all the details. Very glad I did. What a book!

Extraordinaire
