What did you like most about La Vita Nuova (The New Life)?
It gives the student a good introduction to the book as a basis for further study.
What did you like best about this story?
The examination of the point where poetry is beginning to be written in Italian rather than in Latin.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Jack Wynters?
Only if it were wholly in English
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
A bit too rich to manage in one session, but lasted two car journeys
Any additional comments?
One does not expect English narrators to have perfect accents when reading small extracts in foreign languages. But one can expect them to read with the right pronunciation and accents in the right places. In this book, it looks to me as if the audio director let the reader make up the pronunciation as he went along. The result was that the phrases in Italian sounded more like an Italian waiter in a 1950’s Carry On film. As a result my wife and I were screaming at the mistakes as we went through the book. A pity as most of the target audience are likely to be students of Italian
