Stunned at how good this was

Written in 1885, this novel is a story about three English who set off to find someone who has gone missing. Allan Quartermain has been in country for a long time. Sir Henry Curtis and his friend Captain Good convince Quartermain to go on a hunt for Curtis' long-lost brother last seen heading for Kind Solomon's Mine. Considered to be a suicide mission, Quartermain agrees for his own reasons.

Now you might be tempted to believe this will be about savages. It is in a way, but it is more about friendship, diversity, and brotherhood. Haggard has a message of equality among races, as I choose to interpret it. He is a 135+ years ahead of his time. Foulata and Good being my most favorite characters.

I give this book a sincere two thumbs up and has to be on the must read list.

A classic story, reflective of the Victorian age.

If you could sum up King Solomon's Mines in three words, what would they be?

Adventure, Chivalry and Empire

Who was your favorite character and why?

Quatermain, an English Gentleman, modest, honest and honourable.

Have you listened to any of Toby Stephens’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Toby Stephens reads the story well.

Any additional comments?

This book was written in a different time. If you cannot understand that and lack the ability to apply context to the narrative, then you probably shouldn't listen to this book, maybe try Harry Potter.
