The fountainhead of many of the greatest themes in dystopian fiction

After my third time listening to this book I am convinced that many of the most potent themes in the best selling dystopian fiction borrow capital from Rand or from those who borrow from her.
A keen observer can see the pure distillation of collectivist/statist ideology represented in the horrifying future she depicts.

Coming out of Atheist/Communist Russia, she only had the courage to question the communist part of her national heritage, too bad.

After this read Atlas Shrugged, then Desiring God by John Piper. I dare you.

Ayn Rand Classic Novella

In Anthem, Rand examines a frightening future in which individuals have no name, no independence, and no values. The people in this book aren't individuals and individuality is doomed. The characters even have odd names such as Equality 7-2521 or Liberty 5-3000. The strongest part of this book is the struggle to find identity, individuality, and freedom. In Anthem, individuality is erased from language in order to erase it from thought. Something like this appears to be happening in our society. Pronoun usage in English may present some difficulties, but reducing us all to nameless, faceless, sexless “they” is not the answer. Dehumanization is never the answer. I highly recommend this book.

Carson Beck does the narration and does an amazing job. This is the third time I have heard a performance from this great narrator and was not disappointed.
