Publisher's summary

Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables is one of the best loved Canadian books of all time. Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, middle-aged brother & sister, live together at Green Gables, their farm on Prince Edward Island. They decide to adopt a boy from an orphanage in Nova Scotia to help out on the farm. Through a series of mishaps, the child that arrives at their door is not a boy, but Anne Shirley, a precocious 11 year old girl! Anne is bright, quick, and eager to please, but dissatisfied with her name, her pale countenance dotted with freckles, and her long braids of red hair. Anne takes much joy in life, and adapts quickly, thriving in the environment of Prince Edward Island.

excellent narrator

This is my favorite narrator-she is expressive and has a lovely voice. I sampled all of the versions before choosing this one. I already loved the book but listening to it was a pleasure.

A wonderful gem of a story with great naration.

Despite being a "middle-aged" woman, I enjoyed this delightful tale of Anne and her her unfailing optimism.

Thoroughly enjoyable

I had never read Anne of Green Gables and since I was going to the area about which it was written decided to. Great story read by an engaging narrator.

Always heartfelt

I think this is my third or fourth time listening to this book recently! And each time it's still warms my heart and give me fuzzy feelings! The performance is so great and brings the story to life, just like the old movie does! I love listening to this book!

I wish I could meet Anne

This is simply one of the kindest, brightest, life and truth affirming books I have read for quite a long time. I sincerely recommend it to all the kids and grown ups out there, especially if you feel somewhat down. All is well with the world if you are eager to see the right and the Light!!!

Great story every time

These characters are so alive for me thanks to the CBC movie production from 1985.

Megan Follows, Colleen Dewhurst, Richard Farnsworth, Patricia Hamilton, Jonathan Crombie and company are so firmly entrenched in my mind that no one else could ever embody the same characters with any credibility. Reading the book again was like watching the movie with my eyes closed.

No matter how many times I’ve read the books or seen the movies, I am enveloped in the story every time. Lucy Maud Montgomery’s imagination is so engrossing and absorbing that's it’s no surprise to me the series is still so popular over 100 years later.

Narrator leaves me wantong

Is there anything you would change about this book?

No, great book.

How could the performance have been better?

When the reader did Anne's voice, it was annoying. I would have preferred her to just read in her normal voice rather than use the phony child voice.

Such a sweet clasic

As a child, I did not read much. When I started home schooling, I loved reading to my kids and my kids loved reading. I started reading myself as well for pleasure. I also have gone back and read many of the books that I would have read as a child. This is one of them. I am so glad I decided to read it. Well, listened to it. Absolutely beautiful.
