From the comedic master P. G. Wodehouse, the story of a glutinous man and his decision to commit suicide.
Mr. Meggs has decided to end his life. Middle-aged, overweight, and dyspeptic, he finds that his ceaseless stomach agitation has become too much to bear. With no relatives or family of his own, he plans to disperse his fortune among his former colleagues. Much to his own delight, he drafts six letters, each containing a banknote. He has even set aside a significant sum for Miss Pillenger, his loyal, austere secretary. Miss Pillenger’s reaction to his generosity, however, is entirely unexpected. And in a series of absurd events, Mr. Meggs discovers a few long-ignored truths.
