What was most disappointing about Daniil Kharms’s story?
The stories purposefully do not make sense and are often morbid.
If you could rename 96 jumoristicheskih rasskazov [96 Humorous Stories], what would you call it?
96 morbid, nonsensical anecdotes (in Russian)
Any additional comments?
I purchased this book to brush up on my Russian, which has sadly stagnated since my childhood. The narrator cannot perform better for this purpose. The words are so crisp and well pronounced I cannot possibly miss a syllable. The tone of the narration is perfect for the content and type of humor, although the humor is sadly not my style at all.
I cannot recommend the content itself, however, unless you particularly enjoy often sad stories that seem to recount someone's hallucinations. I should have read the description better :).
Here is a simplified example of one of the anecdote plots: A girl dies. Her dad takes her to the morgue and buries her. When he gets home, she is already there, having come out of the grave. In shock, he dies. The girl buries him. He wasn't really dead, and returns home. The girl is surprised but does not say anything and grows up. They later laugh at having buried each other. In the end, they are both killed in a car crash.
