I love this book!!

I loved listening to Tom and Jan Lane!! I also enjoyed hearing their stories of their journey through marriage!! I felt like I could relate to them and how they both felt, even though my personality only matches one of them! They were so open and honest, vulnerable and real!

This book is perfect for Singles, Engaged and Married couples alike-to completely understand how a Relationship works. It exposes your presumptions and expectations, as well as your (future) boyfriend/girlfriend or spouse!

I'm definitely re-listening to this Audible!!!

Enjoy!!

Bullseye!

In most self-help books you can find a few take-aways but this one is full of clear examples and remedies to address this particular relationship dynamic. I appreciated the transparency in the plethora of personal experiences they shared. I also appreciated the balance of perspectives from both sides that contribute to the cycle of dysfunction found in the dynamics of this kind of partnership. Be ready to do some hard, soul-searching work, because there's correction and rebuke for everyone! But, it will also provide you with a game plan and hope!

Helpful and supportive

I did not listen to this book because I had a specific need. As an easy-going laid-back kind of guy, with a strong contemporary woman as a wife I always look at ways to be a better husband. This book supports some of my own thoughts and how contemporary then are often miss directed and unknowing of their roles in a contemporary marriage. The modern wife does not need to be taken care of commonly rescued, or often provided for because she can take care of herself. What this book helped me understand, is the misconception guys golfing total ourselves while we make up our own stories. Y’all can make up stories because we don’t have communication, or are afraid of getting answers that we don’t want to know. So husbands will often write their own stories, coming up with reasons why a wiser acting a certain way without ever having taken the time to simply ask them. This is one of the most damaging things in the passive husband can do, and it will completely employ your marriage if you don’t identify it it corrected it as soon as you can! I strongly recommend this book, not just for husbands out there, but also for wives that may find them selves in similar situation. Communication truly is the key, and if you love your wife, your marriage and your family enough taking the time to talk about things that are in your mind and on your heart is the healthiest close balance things to do. I think the authors for reaffirming something I feel like known for a long time. It’s perfectly fine that she’s strong, and I’m the one who likes to avoid the conflict, but the best thing to do is never stop talking. It’s important to remember everything started with a conversation between the two of you. And that habit should never ever stop!

It was not clear that this book had a

Clearly religious slant to it. This is not it all what was portrayed in the sample. I’d like to request a refund of one credit as I did not listen to the book. Thank you

Outstanding

I finished this today and I swear the authors were reading the minds of my wife and I. This is a very good book and one that I would encourage many to read.

Not Biblical!

From the opening scriptures in this book (Genesis 3:16) the Holy Spirit warned me there would be errors. Because the authors or publisher opted to include the words “to control her husband” in this passage, my spirit was flagged. Those words “to control her husband” are NOT found in the original Hebrew text, or in most of the trusted translations. So early into this book I became very skeptical and rightfully so.

As I continued, I found more Biblical errors as the authors were suggesting things that each spouse should do to improve their marriage. Their recommendations are blatantly unscriptural and primarily psychological. The authors obviously want to appeal to the masses, perhaps with the idea of selling more books, but it simply grieves me when God’s word is twisted out of context.

God’s HOLY WORD makes it perfectly clear that only one spouse is needed to create a God-honoring marriage and that spouse is the spiritual leader, the husband (Ephesians 5). Using the comparison of Christ and the Church (Christ’s Bride), the church never needed to do anything to gain the sacrificial love of her GROOM.

The Church did not need to meet Christ halfway, alter any behavioral styles, or do anything special to make HIM feel emotionally safe enough to engage. No! Christ died while we were sinners.

If husbands will love their wives sacrificially like Christ loved the church and will willing give himself up for her, the wife, as a result, she will respect her husband.

Paul says it this way in Ephesians 5:32-33. Please note the words in parentheses are not in the original Greek transcripts. In addition the Greek word ‘hina’ translated as the word ‘that’ in the KJV means ‘as a result’ or ‘in order that’. Here’s the scripture:

32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife (see) that (she) reverence her husband.

When the passages are written without the translators added words (see and she) and with the benefit of understanding the Greek meaning of the word hina, the passage takes on a whole new meaning that will solve marriage problems. Here is the scripture without all the additional words:

32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife as a result, reverence her husband.

To drive the point home, Christ didn’t expect to be revered (or respected) before He gave Himself up for His Bride. No, He gave Himself up for us (His Bride) while he was being misunderstood, abused, and treated unmercifully.

I contend, and with scriptural evidence, that when any husband lays down his life for his wife like Christ did, she will respect, serve, love and adore him just like the Church honors Christ.

That’s why it only takes one spouse (the husband) to change the direction of a marriage. And it is ultimately the husband’d responsibility because God placed man in authority (or to be the head) of woman and God’s word clearly appoints the husband to love his wife like Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25).

I am praying that God’s Spirit will convict Biblical marriage counselors and authors to do more research before they counsel couples or write books like this.
