What can storytelling do for you?

Study after study confirms that stories have unparalleled power to break down walls, build trust, and influence people to act. More than facts and data alone, stories are fundamental to capturing and expressing our ideas, wishes, and beliefs and getting the results we want. The right story can help you nail a job interview, earn a raise, close a sale, strengthen relationships with customers and employees, become a more comfortable networker, rally a team, and more.

A practical guide for the busy professional.

Taking a fun, no-nonsense approach, Unleash the Power of Storytelling will teach you:

  • The hard science behind why stories work
  • A simple three-part structure for telling any story
  • The role of emotion in fueling great stories
  • How to cut the clutter and focus your story on the essentials
  • How and where to find great stories
  • Tips for delivering your stories in the most effective way possible

It also contains tons of practical examples showing you how to use stories in job interviews, presentations, customer calls, employee meetings - even how to craft the right story for a wedding toast or eulogy!

storytelling is essential to the sales process

whether it's a personal environment or professional environment, storytelling brings emotion to the front and people make decisions based on emotions. they justify the decision with facts, but the decision is what you're looking for. nice read, great tips. I recommend this book!

Gets stright to the point.

As a long time subscriber to Audible I get irritated by books that keep dancing around the topic with hitting it straight on the head. I was really happy that Rob didn't do that, he addressed storytelling from a very practical angle that filtered all fluff out.
This is the book that will surely improve your storytelling given the simple steps he offers across the book. Don't expect a book that will take you all the way to teach you who "invented" storytelling and how it played a role in human evolution since the Greeks or so (thank god it wasn't that kind of a book).

Useful Tips and Structures - Requires Homework

Rob's insight on story telling allows him to tell you the key elements, tips on what to do and what not to do, as well as personal, business, and client examples. He also suggests how to tell stories based on certain scenarios, as well as overall public speaking guidance and how to create your library of stories.

But building the library and getting the mastery that this book can advise will take homework and inward searching. So don't come out expecting to be a sudden expert.

All in all, highly recommend!

Captivating

I’m astonished I could use the word captivating to describe any how-to book at all. But Rob must have employed almost every tip and technique he offered the reader (or listener) because I was fascinated. I do know he related stories to the reader that illustrated points he made, and I very much enjoyed that, eagerly awaiting the next one. I was also glad he provided information applicable to many types of storytelling situations, not only presentations given in the work setting. I’d like to buy a physical copy of this book and go crazy with a highlighter, marking and underlining. This is good stuff!!!

Good book but was hoping for a little different twist

I enjoyed the book but felt it was more about telling stories, speaking. I wish it would’ve gave more examples of telling a story on selling something like on a new product. Yes, I can take somethings from it that I learned but I felt like I knew most of them. Making a PowerPoint to sell something into a company was hard to relate to the advise given.
