Critic reviews

“In The Soul of a Trainer, when Thom leans in and whispers to us in his prose poetry style about living a full and balanced life, I can feel his arm around my shoulders.” (Dan John, author of Never Let Go)

“Anyone can build a gym: a space and a pile of equipment, mirrors, and a desk. Very few can build a gym business, manage it, and make it flourish. Thom Plummer can, and he will tell you how and without fail or failure.” (Dave Draper, Mr. America, Mr. World, Mr. Universe)

A must read for all fitness professionals

This is a must read for anyone headed into the fitness and for those that have been in the industry for many years. The story paints a clear picture of what life as a fitness professional is like, what fitness professionals should focus on, and how they should conduct themselves to be successful.
On a not so positive note, the audio is low quality. I have bad hearing and wear hearing aids, which often makes things worse, but it was difficult to listen to.
Also, there’s tons of repetitive rants (which Mr. Plummer admits are rants) that I could have done with out. For example, I agree phones are ruining how we interact with other humans and mentioning it a handful of times would have been sufficient. I didn’t count, but I wouldn’t be surprised if cell phones were mentioned in this book over 1,000 times. Perhaps that emphasizes the importance, but it just got old.

Insight and wisdom from the greatest mind in the fitness industry

Thomas Plummer is by far the most influential man in the fitness industry. He’s the behind the scenes consultant, advisor, and innovator that has propelled the fitness industry to its current standing. This book is a collection of thoughts and insights from his experiences along the way. I highly recommend this book to anyone remotely connected to the fitness business.

not the type of inspiration I was looking for

this guy has obviously spent time in the trenches of working on an hour-by-hour basis. And he understands with the fatigue of having a long day is like. However the focus of the book felt much more on the glass is half empty side than it is on the glass is half-full side.

One man's opinion, while sitting on the toilet

1. the audio sounds like he recorded this while sitting in the bathroom and I never got over it.

2. this was the single most unorganized book I have ever listened to.

3. instead of sharing his specific stories or examples or even research the author told us what is best. no context, we should simply do it because he knows best.

very disappointing listen
