Reasonably Informative; Horribly Edited

It is really sad to review this book - a really great opportunity, so much effort, and such a miserable result.
The editors of the book asked many distinguished figures in the Fintech arena to write short chapters about something. Sometimes very relevant for them, sometimes just something in the arena. The result is a book with about 70 short essays, many times overlapping, and in many cases falling short of covering the topic. Some are high quality, some are far from that. In some of the cases I found myself listening for minutes to lists of unclear statistics about something. The end result is I feel instead of reading one coherent book about one or several relevant topics, I got 70 introductions to about 10 different books, of which 7 I wouldn't even consider reading.
To avoid judging to harshly I should reiterate that some of the essays were interesting, informative, and of high quality. So listening was not a complete waste of time.

Giving a voice to those who remained unheard

Passion for Fintech in contribution of the cream of crop. Banks are lagging behind the curve. The newest opportunities in financial circles gained advantage and drove change, by not reinventing the wheel, but by superceding it.

Doesn't build to meaningful depth, lacks direction

This is a 'crowd sourced' concept book where each chapter is from a different contributor all discussing various aspects of Fintech. Unfortunately the result is that each chapter is unconnected to the rest, at least unconnected in any meaningful way.

Because of the concept and construction the book doesn't build. It is essentially a long list of 'articles' which won't interest most people, even if we are into Fintech. The lack of narrative progression means that the book says nothing deep about Fintech. Articles bore with specifics that don't inform but strangely don't say much about specific Financial Technology companies. For example there are a few paragraphs written from national perspectives: how is Fintech in France, India, etc. One of these includes a list of very specific banking penetration statistics for Mexico. But there is no specific analysis of business case wins or losses and no technology is analyzed.

In addition there is an annoying tendency to act as a cheerleader for how Fintech will take over everything with too little room for criticism, constructive or otherwise. This book preaches to the converted but will be unlikely to educate a specialist in the area and it won't interest someone who is only curious as it struggles to make points of value.

Full disclosure, I only got a third of the way through the book. That's me giving the book more than it gave back.

good but repeats itself alot

very insightful but is riddled with repetition as it is a collection of works from other writers. it would have been much more palatable if it had been sifted through to remove this. plus it would have been much shorter.
