Beautiful elegant orthodoxy, for better or worse

At best, the reader is treated to a calm voice passing pretty intelligently on corners of the markets, alongside some recent history (through that prism). At worst, the author lapses into un-original passages of repeating the catechism of this era's financial orthodoxy. If you haven't heard this world view in its full elegance before (and I would include lots of lefty conspiracy types of whatever intentions, but too ignorant or perhaps lazy to learn heretofore what they are denouncing with the usual bumper-sticker slogans), this is a pristine, clean presentation of it. I can imagine listening to any number of figures of this stripe in history, from a Medieval functionary of the Roman Catholic Church, to, say, some earnest apparatchik of a Marxist USSR in the mid 1950s, to some (copping Taleb's terminology) pre-2008 neo-Platonist charlatan flacking absurdly wrong (but beautifully internally elegant) risk models. I don't mean to equate this fellow to them, but it has that untouchably perfect sealed-system kind of thinking to it: hard to argue with, if the listener is willing to jettison the discomforts of alternate views. This can help the unwashed and untutored to understand the smugness and resentment and self-justification of the one-percenters: within this beautiful and airless ideology, it makes perfect internal sense. And it DOES make a lot of sense, again, particularly if one lives in a certain rarefied sphere of existence, and not on the gritty streets where I live (and where political and social peace has a price, AND a value, not to be brushed aside). I agree with plenty of this author's view, more than my peers do in the main, but I see its limitations. And you will not find a clearer exposition of this than here. This is good value for my money.
