Publisher's summary

Drive improvement within your organization through the implementation of lean six sigma - finally explained in a simple and effective manner.

Running an organization is simple. Running an organization that is effective and efficient and has little waste is another story. At the core of every organization, what defines how it operates on a day-to-day basis is its philosophy and strategy. Not to be overlooked, the theories and strategies deployed by management and reinforced by those who execute the organization's mission ultimately define its success. Process improvement, quality control, and customer satisfaction can simultaneously be managed and improved upon with the implementation of lean six sigma. Data driven and rooted in analytics, the techniques and principles of lean six sigma have been around since the early 1920s.

An integration of the lean production philosophy and process improvement techniques of six sigma, lean six sigma combines two leading initiatives in order to take an organization to the next level. Through a calculated and developed strategy, the implementation of lean six sigma allows organizations to provide goods and services that meet or exceed customer expectations, efficiently coordinating the efforts of teams to get projects done the right way. Implementing lean six sigma begins with understanding exactly all of the concepts and the philosophy.

A great book for beginners!

What made the experience of listening to Lean Six Sigma QuickStart Guide the most enjoyable?

The soothing and slow paced voice of Lucy Vest was the highlight. The clean and understandable speech made it very easier o follow and understand the concept!

What other book might you compare Lean Six Sigma QuickStart Guide to and why?

This was my first book on the topic so I have nothing to compare it with, but Lucy Vest voice really captured my attention which I feel somewhat missing in other audiobooks I have heard.

What does Lucy Vest bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She made the otherwise dry topic so interesting!

Any additional comments?

It is a very well structured audiobook for beginners like me that would expose them to the new approach. The pdf version with charts and table was really helpful to understand and follow parts which otherwise would have been hard.

A Step Up

I received this product in exchange for my honest review. I've heard of Six Sigma before and the belt system they use, but not much else. This definitely helped me understand the finer points of lean management, and its a great supplement to the other audiobooks about lean. I'm a bit of a boring person and enjoy learning in a more textbook format. So it is important to know this audiobook is very structured.

Solid Beginner's Guide

Lean Six Sigma QuickStart Guide is another good starter guide from ClydeBank Business. This provides excellent guidance for those aiming to manage an organization by providing an above-average business management model. The narration -- Lucy Vest --, as usual, was spot on and the references to the pdf files were always appreciated as they illuminated the content being listened to. Recommended!

A nice concise into into Lean Six Sigma!

This is a very short primer into the idea of Lean Six Sigma, which is why I started here for the combined topic.

I have also read individual books on the topics, which went into greater detail on the respective disciplines of Lean and Six Sigma. I think that this book focused more independently on the two topics and didn't do a great job joining them together. But, it is pretty involved subject matter to expect anything in depth, especially given the limited size of the book. so, I give it high praise for doing well to summarize the two topics, irrespective of the other.

For a great book on Lean, read (or listen to) The Machine That Changed The World. It does an excellent job. Make sure to get the latest version, as it has some important updates, which will bring you up to nearly current date. However, this book is not a how to, it mainly covers what Lean is, where it came from, and how it compares to mass production. It is an actual scientific research project that was released as a book and written in plain English. If you have the time, I 100% reccomend it.

The topic of Six Sigma is less theoretical and more based on scientifically proven analysis and problem solving skills, that are statistical statistical in nature. So, in order to get a decent understanding of this topic, I'll probably need to spend weeks or months. Even if you have no pressing need to learn this topic, learning it will change your life. I know a HS dropout, who now has his green belt and is now more analytical than most engineers or CEOs I've met.

Good summary

This version was fine but it had some technical info that seemed like class material and not a quick start.

Decent high level overview

This overview of Lean Six Sigma was just that, an overview, and a very high level one at that. I know that the book is short and as such has limited bandwidth for presenting details, but with a "Quickstart Guide" title, I expected something that would actually help someone get started with Lean Six Sigma, and I did not feel that this book accomplished that goal. That being said, the material was still interesting and I enjoyed listening to it.

As far as the "performance" or narration of the book is concerned, I enjoyed Lucy's voice and thought she did a good job reading the material and keeping it from being too dry. My only complaint and the reason I only rated the performance at 3 stars is because there is a slight room echo, and while it probably won't bother most people, it was a bit distracting for me.

Good Intro to LEAN Six Sigma

Any additional comments?

My biggest complaint about this book is that is one of those audio books that comes with a pdf that you are expected to be able to look at while listening. I think that's obnoxious because if I were in a situation when I could look at a page, I'd just read a book, not listen to one. But if that isn't a pet peeve for someone else, it's a pretty good introduction to LEAN Six Sigma. Not very in depth, but plenty to decide if you want to learn more. In fact the book is setup to help people decide if LEAN is something worth pursuing for their business and industry.
