Hard Work Pays
Ask parents their greatest wish for their kids, and the answer is usually the same: "We just want them to be happy." Well, sure, that sounds great. But here's the problem: Often the way we try to help our children achieve happiness is by giving them stuff and the fun experiences they want. But research tells us that the secret sauce ingredients to a happy life are hard work, achieving personal goals, and enjoying the satisfaction that comes with the effort. Here's an example of what I mean. When I was growing up, my father's favorite refrain was, "In our family, we do what we have to do before we do what we want to do."
