Editorial reviews

From the publishers of the august news magazine The Economist and veteran British journalist and former politician Dick Leonard, Guide to the European Union is a clear and comprehensive guide to what the EU is, why it exists, and how it operates. Performed in an elegant, authoritative manner by prolific British actor Gordon Griffin, the guide is in its 10th edition and is arranged into the following sections: The Background, the Institutions, the Competences, and the "Special Problems" facing the EU. A discussion of the future of the powerful union is provided. The guide should be of interest to any intelligent follower of the political state of our world, and perfect for any beginning student of Europe.

Publisher's summary

The 10th edition of the long-established definitive guide to the EU. From its original six members (who formed the European Economic Community in 1957) what became the European Union had grown to 27 members in 2007, with several more candidates for membership standing in the wings.

The European Unions History brought to life

What made the experience of listening to Guide to the European Union the most enjoyable?

Very informative guide from the early staring point of the EU right through to present day.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I would say that amongst the characters Margaret Thatcher would be the more interesting players in the political scene (but then I am English). So in fact each character adds their part to the overall story.

What about Gordon Griffin’s performance did you like?

Gordon Griffin's performance was brilliant, his voice is commanding and keeps you attentive to the story line, which is complex in its own right.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A real life adventure in a world that is carried out behind the scenes.

Any additional comments?

If you are either studding EU politics or need to get a better understanding of politics and its many different moves this is the book for you.
