Publisher's summary

Every Fortune 500 corporation, movie star, and scandal queen can attest to the fact that a good publicist is essential to building success and maintaining public support. If you are a small business owner, an entrepreneur, or an undercapitalized beginner seeking an edge in a highly competitive arena, here are the resources necessary to mount your own campaign and get the media exposure you need.

In clear and concise language, Michael Levine, one of the top public relations counselors in the country, reveals the same procedures he uses every day to get press on major stars - and how those strategies can be utilized on little or no budget. Using case histories and tips from his own experiences, Levine shows you how to think like a publicist and map out a strategy for success.

Good but dated

Good information, but VERY dated. This book is from 1993 or so. Still, I got a lot of good information out if it and it sparked some ideas for me. There is only a passing mention of the internet in the book, though.

good but very outdated

Note the publication date of 1993. I didn't notice that. This book talks about letterhead, fax machines, polaroids and typewriters, suggests utilizing the rapidly expanding UHF television stations, and recommends watching The Simpson's to keep up with modern times. More than an hour of this book is just a list of 1990s magazines and newspapers with their mailing addresses. Why even sell this book when there is an updated 2008 version? There were a lot of stories of PR stunts and ideas that were pretty interesting though.
