The author made listening to this book more painful than owning a franchise could ever be... or maybe that was his objective. If getting through this audiobook was a true test of my ability to own a franchise, I failed miserably. The author has about 3 hours of introduction, and in that three hours, I think I obtained 2.5 mins of actual concrete information on franchise ownership. This book is filled with half a dozen hypothetical personal stories (yes, i know, i said the same thing) and approximatly zero cold hard facts. To top it off, the author's method of speaking to his audience is belittling, obnoxious and completely self righteous. I just couldn't take it anymore, I had to cut the cord after 4 hours of listing to useless antidotes and circling around the objective at hand, which was, just in case the author is reading this: To inform his audience on how to be a successful franchise owner! If I was the author, this book would have a 2 minute introduction and then jump into the facts, which should consist of: industry terms (jargon) used in by franchisers and franchise lawyers, and what do they mean? What does it mean to be a potential franchisee? When should you start preparing yourself for obtaining a franchise (6 months, 12 months, 24 months before the doors actually open), What steps should one take in order to prepare for being a franchisee (in numerical order)? What can be found in those contracts they give you? What are your options for an early escape if you decide you want to quit? How to make it to your ten year agreement when times get hard. How important is having a partner or financial backer? and what can one do to safe guard themselves from failure, buffer risk, and find financing, ect., all this should be answered WITHOUT STORIES!!! Im not a child, I don't need cautionary tails before bedtime, Im a busy adult that needs facts, FAST! so I can be decisive and complete in my research, so I can make the right decision. Don't waste my time, I hate that. I have never written a product review before, but I hated this book so much, i had to get out my frustrations. So much could be covered in the first four hours, and nothing was, except stories about how people suck at running franchises, and how the author is a guru (who also, admittedly, sucked at running his own franchise), and how you've come to the right book... blah blah blah... refund!
