Publisher's summary

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Ilona Andrews launches a brand-new Hidden Legacy series, in which one woman must place her trust in a seductive, dangerous man who sets off an even more dangerous desire.

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career - a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile situation. Nevada isn't sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she's kidnapped by Connor "Mad" Rogan - a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run and wanting to surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan's after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she's getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

Great Story Made NEarly Unbearable by Narrator

What made the experience of listening to Burn for Me the most enjoyable?

It's a great story and the world building is so immersive.

What did you like best about this story?

The team behind Ilona Andrews are responsible for some of my favorite stories. Burn for Me is a fascinating turn for the urban fantasy genre, which tends to cling to the unwritten rules of Noir: no family or permanent personal attachments need apply. Nevada loves her family and they love her back. Nobody gets fridged for the sake of drama.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Renee Raudman?

Probably almost anyone else. Her style doesn't really fit for this particular style of story. Nevada's snark sounds incredibly weird when read in Raudman's persistently tremulous voice. She sounds like she is about to cry even when the character is explicitly angry. Most of her character voices have a bizarre country accent that sounds closer to a Midwestern corn farmer than the urban Texans she's supposed to portray.

One of the my favorite books of all time

I've listened to this book now 5 times- yep FIVE. Words cannot express how much I love this book- I love the heroine who is smart, loyal and very capable. I love the hero, I love the secondary characters and the witty dialogue. The world building is fantastic and very interesting. Renee Raudman does a stellar job of making all voices distinct - you never have to wonder who is speaking or what they're feeling. The book
Blurb gives a good summary of the actual story. As with any first book of a series the first couple of chapters is a bit slow as the world is explored and explained but boy does it pick up after that.

Highly recommend this audio book.

A mazing!

Wow. Just wow. So well written. Loved Nevada's conversations both in her head and with others. Ilona Andrew's characters are so real. This story was well paced and exciting. The narration was great. Perfect intonation and very believable voices. Ilona is one of my favorite authors. I've read everything she's written and have not been disappointed. I think she and her husband are the only authors I can say that about. OK, that sounded awkward. Anyway. Well worth the price. I'm waiting with baited breath for the sequel.

The Narrator is terrible and not suited to this series

Choosing Rene Raudman as a narrator for a kick ass heroine in her prime was a terrible choice. The accents are bad the narrators lisp or choice to sound like a bad Cher impersonator when pronouncing any “s” makes listening distracting and unbearable! The intent and world building of the great story is lost through a poorly matched narrator who sounds like someone’s spinster aunt who bores you to death with stories.

Get this!!! You won't be sorry.

I was hesitant to purchase the audiobook because I didn't immediately like the narrators voice, but I persevered. Thank goodness I did because she did a great job. I really enjoyed when she did an announcer's voice. I can't say I loved how she did Connor "Mad" Rogan's voice, but that is my problem.

As for the story, what is there to say apart from it's Ilona Andrews. Of course I loved it! I pulled an all nighter playing on my phone while I listened to the story. I love all the characters, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Nevada's practicality, which sounds ridiculous. Sadly, I often get angry at characters who go off blundering into investigations and put themselves into ridiculous, farcical situations that could have been avoided with a modicum of intelligence. I hate when that is used as a plot device to keep stories "interesting." I'll stop ranting now.

I loved the magic and intelligence. I laughed out loud, although I do that often anyway, or so I'm told. The story ended on a good cliffhanger that doesn't make you pull your hair out. However, that point is moot because all the books are currently out. I hope they come back to this series eventually, so I guess there is a cliffhanger after all.

Thrilling, action, teasing romance

LOVE THIS BOOK!! The dynamics through you for a loop and it works together with much to learn. every part of the book leaves you wanting more. I was on the edge just waiting for the next part to be told. I am in 'awe' and cannot wait to listen to the next book in the series.

Hot!!

I do love both Nevada and Rogan! The story is very fun and indulgent. Great world building, characters you care about, and a fun drama. My only caveat is that I would never want someone you her who hadn't developed a good sense of how they should be treated read it. Connor is definitely far too controlling and his speeches at the end of the book are too selfish for me. Girls saying no does not equal chase harder. That is my major issue with Nevada and Connors first book. However, as a mature adult who wouldn't let anyone speak that way to me, I enjoy it fully.

Was hesitant but don't regret it.

Love the Kate Daniel's series but was hesitant about getting this. Kept putting it off and then finally got it. NO regrets.

Fun, sexy and good story

I don't love it as much as Kate Daniels, but it is suuuper fun. My only wish is that it were less heternormative and masculine, she writes such good romance I would just love it if the love interest was a powerful and rich woman and change nothing else. Also a really great story with excellent twists and charactor development and world building. The voice actress is great and did the Kate Daniels series too.

Great chemistry

BURN FOR ME was my first Ilona Andrews novel. Really loved it. Great world-building and a fast read. My only critique is the narrator’s voice for Mad Rogan (too old). But the voice didn’t hamper my enjoyment of the novel. Highly recommended!
