Publisher's summary

For centuries, people have turned to the Bhagavad Gita for inspiration and guidance as they chart their own spiritual paths. As profound and powerful as this classic text has been for generations of seekers, integrating its lessons into the ordinary patterns of our lives can ultimately seem beyond our reach.

Now, in a fascinating series of reflections, anecdotes, stories, and exercises, Ram Dass gives us a unique and accessible road map for experiencing divinity in everyday life. In the engaging, conversational style that has made his teachings so popular for decades, Ram Dass traces our journey of consciousness as it is reflected in one of Hinduism's most sacred texts. The Gita teaches a system of yogas, or "paths for coming to union with God."

In Paths to God, Ram Dass brings the heart of that system to light for a Western audience and translates the Gita's principles into the manual for living the yoga of contemporary life.

While being a guide to the wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita, Paths to God is also a template for expanding our definition of ourselves and allowing us to appreciate a new level of meaning in our lives.

Great resource for students of The Gita

As the other reviewer notes, this is not an analysis of the Gita. It is a take on using the Gita in your life and spiritual progress. I have read the Gita many times and read various interpretations of the text. I would like this book LESS if it were an interpretation, I do not need more analysis of the text at this point. This is for those seeking to put the teachings of the Gita into action in their own loves. Beautiful book and I love it.

Really?

I enjoyed the story but there were so many mispronounced Sanskrit words, I lost I treat towards the end.

A Ram Dass must read

Though this book is not so much about the Bhagavad Gita, it is a wonderful outlook through the lens of the Gita. I’ve found myself going back and re-listening. Ram Dass has been my guru/life coach/teacher/spiritual guide; lighting the way and telling me when I’m full of shit.

If you’re interested in Ram Dass don’t miss this AB

Not so much about the Bhagavad Gita but many references in relation to Ram Dass’ life. I believe this was based on a course he taught. Super interesting and amusing at times. Well worth to know more about his history and what was going on back in the day, when this knowledge was still new in the US.
Good narrator too. He sounds like a young Richard Alpert.

Got a little worn out on so many references to hallucinogenics, although it’s part of his history and important to learn about them in general.
That being said, some of us are already halfway “there” and don’t necessarily need to trip on lsd. The right musical tones and a good meditation gets me partway there. Some herbaceous plant meds are enough for others.
