Publisher's summary

Mack might be, to all intents and purposes, a normal looking human, but she lives with a pack of shapeshifters in Cornwall in rural England after being dumped there by her mother when she was just a young child. She desperately wants to be accepted by her surrogate family, not least because a lot of them hate her for merely being human, but for some reason her blood just won't allow the transformation to occur. With a terrible temper to match her fiery red hair, Mack is extraordinarily useful in a fight, and when her pack alpha is brutally and abruptly murdered, she swears vengeance. Unfortunately, his murder also draws in the Brethren - the leaders of the shapeshifter world - who will slaughter everyone in Mack's small rural pack if they discover her true identity. Unfortunately Corrigan, the green-eyed muscle-bound Lord Alpha of the Brethren, doesn't let much slip by him.

Greeat new Mix of Otherworld Beings

Would you consider the audio edition of Bloodfire to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the printed versions but I can see the movie playing in my head.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mac, and the gargoyle.

What does Saskia Maarleveld bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She has the ability to change her voice to bring out the other Characters.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I like the book Titles as is, but maybe something simple like (Human-Dragons the other paranormal

Any additional comments?

The stories are coming to few and far between. I need More PLease.

ON TO BOOK TWO

Where does Bloodfire rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I did enjoy this book, but I fade out twice and had to rewind. lol. I am well into book 2 and will get book three. It is slow in some spots, but I am enjoying the story.

What about Saskia Maarleveld’s performance did you like?

I love the reader and have listened to other books she has read. She has a wonderful accent and is easy to listen to.

addicting ended up buying series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I bought each book in the series to find out what happened next. At the close of each chapter you'll want to turn the page. There is a love interest but thank heaven's it's bodice buster. She does not turn into a ninny over a jerk. She keeps her strength, intelligence and personality. Thus far she has no qualms about saying Fk off to the guy she's attracted to when called for. I emphasis this part of the book because I find the regency style para-normal encroachment into the fantasy section extremely annoying.

What other book might you compare Bloodfire to and why?

Patrica Briggs "Mercy Thomas" series. aside from the shifter connection they are always themselves in face of opposition or extreme peril. Something magical and singular that others around them have to accept rather force conformance from.

Have you listened to any of Saskia Maarleveld’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

First one. She's very good. I'd listen to more of her performances.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes.

Any additional comments?

make sure you have enough credits to get the series because you'll want to get each one in sequence.

Wish I knew of thi book sooner

I came across this book based on the Audible recommendation. I am glad I did. I love paranormal romance, scifi, and steampunk. This book has an "Outlander" feel, but more fast-paced. The characters are well-presented, although little back-story is offered. This can be both bad (shallow, superficial characters) and good (not bogged down by needless description.) I am looking forward to the next in the series.

Not a bad start to a series!

I like humor in my books, especially sarcasm but this book had none. Still it wasn't a bad book. I will be buying the second book shortly.

Good book!

I am not a big fan of Happy for now endings. This book did not end the way I thought it would.
The narrator was great! I only wished it would have a bit more romance and of course a happy ever after ending.

Loved it!

Mackenzie Smith, human, was dropped off at the keep with an Alpha who swore to protect her. Mackenzie knows it is against pack law for them to reveal themselves to humans. There is something deep within her that gives her the strength to fight. Her fire rages within her and allows her to do things no human should be allowed to do. When her Alpha dies, she vows to seek revenge against the creature that killed him. However her effort is thwarted when the Brethren arrive, she has to hide her human existence from them and blend in. Nothing about Mackenzie blends and she quickly catches the eye of Lord Alpha Corrigan who knows something is different about her.
Tis ia a remarkable read. I am anxious to see what happens next as I am sure she is just at the peak of learning what she is. Corrigan was pure alpha and I thought the chemistry between the two was amazing.
