Exhausting

While I like Jane her television show even though she can be a little preachy, she takes it too the extreme in her narrative. I found listening to this book exhausting and could only take it in little doses. I admire her for dealing with her demons and overcoming many obstacles she has obviously had in her life. However, in this book, she becomes overly dictatorial as to what others should be doing about making our lives and the world better and how we can do it. This is not why I purchased the book. I purchased the book to understand her life and the path she has led to make her the journalist she is today. I have to say the book was disappointing.

Great Help For Me Building a Balanced Life

I bought this book on Audible a few years ago as a suffering alcoholic because I wanted what Jane had (after she talked in 2012 on HLN about being sober as being cool)... but I was not yet ready to go from "wanting to want to quit drinking" to "wanting to quit drinking". Thankfully, that change did happen and I found myself in early 2015 willing to work a program of recovery in AA which now includes having a sponsor, sponsoring other men, doing step work, having a home group, going to three meetings a week, having a higher power of my understanding, being of service to others and working daily on my spirituality. Despite being sober for over four years now, I know that achieving true life balance is a must for and so I finally listened to Jane's entire book and what an eye opener and helpful resource it is! I have a lot of new self awareness now regarding my selfish consumption habits (mine are new books from Barnes and Noble). I also have a much better understanding of my boundary and co-dependence issues. Thank you Jane!

Disappointing

Biographical narrative not that interesting or unique, and author didn’t provide the depth and range of insights that gives books like this their value. Lots of cliches and superficial conclusions re “recovery.” Sounded more like an adolescent diary, filled with plenty of “I, me, my,” etc., along with preachy instructions. Also, author’s narration super off-putting ~ with EVERY SENTENCE delivered as if it were THE MOST IMPORTANT SENTENCE in the book! Exhausting; I felt like I was being yelled at throughout.

Not really what I expected

What made the experience of listening to iWant the most enjoyable?

This was a biography of Jane focused on the character defects she was aware of in her life and how she overcame them. I enjoyed most of it, but I was particularly interested in the addiction areas of her life. She goes into a lot of detail about several other things that did not interest me.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would have rather heard the story of the specific area of her life as related to the addictions. I actually skipped some chapters that I was not interested in.

What about Jane Velez-Mitchell’s performance did you like?

I really enjoy when this type of book is read by the author. When she refers to
