Publisher's Summary

Includes a foreword by Chrissie Swan.
Joel Creasey gave his first stand-up performance at 17. Now he's a comedy superstar, performing sell-out events in Australia and around the world. Even the late, great Joan Rivers was a fan, inviting him to open for her last Broadway shows.
From his school days and growing up gay in suburban Australia to meeting his idols and what life is like on the road now, Thirsty is full of his most hilarious, heartbreaking, outrageous, scandalous, incredible and most personal stories.

Best Comedy Life Story Ever Written!

Joel’s comedy prowess is far beyond his years. Almost every line in this book has a laugh or giggle in it - masterful! I’m not even gay but loved loved loved his brutally full frontal self deprecating assault on back door humor. Unashamedly vulnerable about weakness and unashamedly boastful about his strengths - this journey of only 27 years never gives up. Hurry up and turn 50 Joel as I can’t wait for the next edition (although that would be many years of Botox). Well done Australian super hero for the next generation!

Prepare to laugh inappropriately loud in public!

There's much to say about Joel Creasy and his charming, mostly endearing but fabulously funny stand up style and he's captured this brilliantly in this book as both story teller and narrator. I couldn't imagine anyone other than Joel telling this story and he does it in a way that captures his audience and pulls them in for the crazy ride that is his life. A fun listen that'll have you laughing inappropriately in public and loving every minute of it.

Love, love, loved this book !!!

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to Joel in his own words tell of his family life, upbringing and career to date. I’ve been lucky enough to have been to one of his live performances, my jaw was aching from laughing so much...
Continue writing Joel, continue performing and making us laugh in what can sometimes be a cruel world!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️

I loved it

I hesitated over buying this audiobook, thinking that it could be a tirade of gen Y.self indulgence. However, safe in the knowledge that Audible would let me return the book if it was too dreadful, I submitted to temptation. The choice turning out to be an excellent one. Joel is a fabulous raconteur. His stories were so engaging and so delightful. They comprise drama, introspection and huge doses of self-deprecating humour. Although in the course of the narrative he lampoons others, (metaphorically of course), it never seemed particularly unkind, and he sends himself up more than anyone. It would have been nice to have seen him in one of his first public performances in grade 4 standing in front of the class using his grandmother's fur stole as a loincloth, singing a song from a popular musical, perhaps 'the lion king', but his description was enough. Clearly, this guy had star quality even at this young age. As well as an entertaining narrative, I felt as though I had been given a glimpse into someone's world. Joel is obviously comfortable about talking about himself, but his observations regarding people and society go so much further without feeling 'heavy'. Comedy in its most elegant form, which I feel this book achieves, is a lot more than 'laughs'. In many ways, he seems to be a person who has landed on his feet in this life, and the rest of us are benefiting as a consequence. And really, when he says 'strap yourself in for the ride' at the beginning of the audiobook, it is a bit like that. I wish he could turn straight and marry me, but this is probably a bit too much to hope for. As one who never really watches comedy on television or goes to cultural events featuring same, this was a great introduction to the genre and the type of thing that makes Audible so rewarding.
