Publisher's summary

A gripping and unsettling portal into the life of a woman who lives in many worlds, some wildly far from and some eerily near to our own.

As children we all had our imaginary friends and monsters in the closet. But for Suzan Saxman, those friends and monsters didn't go away--and they weren't imaginary.

From an early age, Suzan knew instinctively that she had to hide her true self. She couldn't talk about the specters that haunted her, waking and dreaming. In bed with a childhood fever, rat-faced winged beings guarded her; bullied and friendless at school, she ate lunch silently under the steps of St. Theresa's with the ghost of a nun; paralyzed with fear, she woke each night to see a man with no eyes watching her; and she kept watch at the window every day while her daddy was at work and Steve, her real father, was with her mother. It was the 1960s in suburban Staten Island, and she tried to hide it, tried to silence the spirits, ghosts, and demons, tried to be a daughter her mother could love. Like many memoirs, Suzan's is the story of a mother and a daughter: of a mother who refused to accept both her strangely gifted daughter and her own personal buried secrets and of a daughter who grew more and more isolated as she floated adrift in a family to which she did not feel she belonged.

Now, with Perdita Finn, Suzan tells the story of her journey, revealing and celebrating both the joy and terror, the fulfillment and sadness of a life lived between worlds, the loneliness and power of seeing and understanding things no one else can.

I couldnt put it down

This book has been on my Wish List for some time. I dont know why I waited so long to make the purchase. I guess it was just time. I am so glad I picked up my headphones yesterday morning! As I worked in my yard, I listened to an easy flowing naration of Suzan's life. I found myself deeply invested in every phase of her journey. Through her fantastic detail, many personal questions of my own were answered along the way. A fantastic read... Easy listen.

interesting, thought provoking, and entertaining. it's worth a listen/read. I think the 20 word minimum is silly.

Left me questioning part of her story

I'm fascinated by this sort of thing and love to read books written by John Edward, John Holland, Sylvia Brown, etc... I thought this book would be interesting, and it was. It's also very well narrated by Hillary Huber..

However, I found myself questioning much of her story. She starts out talking about how unattractive and unpopular she was as a young girl, but then moves on to talk about how she's always in great demand, she can't keep people away. If she's at a fair with other psychics, everyone wants to see her, not anyone else. She has all these men falling in love with her. She's tiny and petite. She keeps changing her name so people can't find her, yet they still do, she just can't get away from it..

And yet.....I've never heard of her before, and I follow this sort of thing. I'm sure it has to do with my own experience with a family member who reminds me of this woman. To follow her on facebook you'd think she was a famous writer, rich, famous, a professional traveler, on and on and on, none of which are true... So I guess with that in mind, I listened to this womans story and kept thinking, she sounds so full of herself..

She talks about dark spirits a lot, how people who talk about protecting themselves with a white light make her sick... I don't know.. I guess she kind of gave me the creeps...

Maybe she's the real deal, maybe she's not.. How does one know when her name is not out there and as far as I can find, there aren't any testimonials as to how she gave anyone accurate readings.. All we have is what she says.. If in fact the readings she gave people are true, than wow.. Very intersting.. But without that, couldn't anyone say I did this, I did that, I saw this, I told someone that...

She describes a very dysfunctional life growing up with a very hateful mother (whom, despite being so horrible, Susan stayed in contact with throughout the mothers life).. She is married to her soul mate, yet has affair after affair, which he seems to be okay with and always takes her back. She loves her son, yet seems to be leaving him in the dust as she goes off and does her thing over and over again. She was always captivated by Jack Wilde, who was a child star.. She claims to have finally met him and through things that occured, came to the conclusion that they were half brother and sister. Course, he's no longer living, so we just have her word about that. A very respectable, down to earth, good looking lawyer falls in love with her and spends quite a few years with her, yet to see pictures of her on utube, she has dark blue hair, is tatooed, wears odd clothing, and doesn't seem like someone who would be in a partnership with a professional lawyer.

The book is interesting, yet, so much of it was about her very dysfunctional life.. maybe it's all true.. Maybe it's not... Just wish there was more info out there to back up her stories..
